I'm just wondering how many of you believe in Aliens...Now by that I mean who here believes that there are intelligent lifeforms out there in space other than those occupying this planet.
Call me crazy but I definately do!! :0 I mean c'mon, were the only life in this whole universe(s), I don't think so...Anyway I'm just wondering. I won't be rude 2 those who don't but I will think your a bit ignorant.

Well you see I.....wait...uh oh I think I see Scott (digitally) making his way over here w/ a HUGE lock....
Actually, since I guess this BBS caters to a technical audience and this is a science related question, he might let it go.
Anyways, statistically speaking, there has to be intelligent life out there. There are so many stars, odds are, life formed around at least a couple 1000 of them.
Do they come to earth in saucers, kidnap farmers, and make crop circles? No.

And you thought the raman noodle thread was OT, hehe. In before the lock =].

I believe there are aliens out there. I'm not sure what kind exactly what kind they are though http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Hopefully friendly!
I do every sunday night at 9pm.

The only way I would believe that the aliens are or have been here, I would have to see it for myself. I do believe that there must be intelligent life somewhere. Billions of stars in our Galaxy alone. Billions of galaxies with billions of stars. Surely one of these has intelligent life. They say that there may be life under the surface of one of Saturn's moons. Maybe bacteria and such, which would be totally astonishing, but maybe little fishies, also. I hope so. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Is there other forms of life in the universe? yes most definately.... Will we ever see them? Possibly. Have they been to this planet? Who knows and the governments of this world will never let us know that for sure (as long as they can help it)

If there is intelligent life out there, they probably have a sign about 1 light-year out saying "Detour Human Zone Ahead"

ha ha I liked that one, Ptrper.
I think that if thay are advanced enough to get here, we would never know it. We are close enough to nano-tech now. Aliens would send micro sized robots to spy on earth. Maybe that bird looking at you through the window now? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

As we arn't even a speck of sand in the Uni, we would have to be pretty conceited if we assume we are the only intelligent life form around,
If we look around our own planet some of the so called lower life forms show more intelligence than mankind.
Any way who's trying to Rat out the visitors.

They're out there for sure, or have been out there. The universe is 15 Billion yrs old; there's been time for many civilizations to come and go. Funny there's no stray radio waves or broadcasts from them though....

I was married to what seamed like one. one time. but, that is a different story.
but, if they are out there and are more advanced than us.
than maybe they can locate all the missing things that my cloths dryer has eaten all these years and all the other stuff ect. that has seamed to vanish into thin air.
If we were on our own, that would be an awful waste of space...

This is another one of those subjects that I ride the fence on. Taking the scientific approach and looking at the statistics, I would have to admit that it is almost impossible that there is no other life out there. There may not be intelligent life per se, or maybe life that has the potential and hasn't "evolved" enough yet. With our current understanding of physics, I highly doubt that we have been visited, but who knows maybe someone, somewhere has discovered something we have yet to find. When you look at the speed at which technology is progressing I have no doubt that the human race will eventually explore and exploit our entire solar system. The possibilities a discussion like this opens up are truly staggering.
On the other side of the fence you have the religious point of view. It states that we were created "in God's image", which implies that if there is life on other planets, it is simply more human beings. It would be rather interesting to see what kind of history and experiences another race of humans would have on a completely different planet and environment. If that were the case and God did in fact create the universe and us, it would seem to be an incredible waste of space. Unless He intends for us to someday go out into the universe and explore and populate it as well. Again, this raises another staggering amount of possibilities.
Who is right? We'll find out when we die, but I'd like to know before then...

I dont think it is so much of a waste of space; from the religious viewpoint it helps us to realize how small we are in comparison to something that God created (who is himself infinitly more times "larger" than the universe).

I recall the comment that Steve Forbes looks like a space alien impersonating a human being. Who knows?
,well,,as i have stated before in other topics, whether or not we "believe" in aliens, doesn't have much bearing on the facts and the enormous physical evidence that proves the existence of intelligent extra terrestrial life. yes, i believe, in the truth.......

I grew up equidisqtant between La Guarada and
Idlewild ( Keneddy) airports. I, at that time
(1950's) knew just about every commercial and military aircraft that flew right over my head. One night I was out, walking the dog ,and there were lights I had never seen before, but I didn't give much notice til I realized that they changed direction at an obtuse angle and all in the same plain, simutaneously. To this day ,I have no idea what kind of craft in exixtence ,four in all, could have made such a maneuver. Not saying I believe in aliens but some force beyond the capabilities of the times pulled this one off.
I do believe that this occurence was caused by other than man made vehicles. Just an observation. Make out of what you will. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I would post my little opinion, but I think chipbgt said what I think best.
Something else I've always wondered, where and does the universe ever "end"? I mean, something without an end is difficult to grasp (something with no begining is WAY too hard to grasp) I've always thought that if you traveled at or close to the speed of light through space, you'd eventually end up back where you started.
But that would assume that the universe if sphere-shaped. If it is, what surrounds it?
*ow* my brain, where's my Aleeve?

No, the universe is finite; it has a defined volume. It's immense but not infinite. And it does have a beginning, too. We just don't have a clue what happened before that. (oscillating universe perhaps? expanding and collapsing every once in a while...)
As far as religion is concerned, remember that early civilization would explain away what they didn't know with religion: Sun, stars, weather, famine. The more they learned of science however, the more they began to come up with reasonable cause and effect answers. And the less they attributed to religion.
I think you'd better draw from the examples set forth in history. Just because we don't know, let's just say "we don't know (yet)" not "God did it".

On the Big-Bang theory, when the universe was all squeezed into a space smaller than a pinhead, it was squeezed into a space smaller than a pinhead everywhere at once, in the 4th (I think) dimention. So the center of the universe is where I sit, it's where you sit, everywhere is the center of the universe at once. Whoa!(reaching for heatsink for my forehead)

Hello,
There are so many questions and so few answers.
When I was a kid I read every book from Erich von Daniken (I am not sure about name spelling) and I was in. Now I am a skeptic about his and similar theories.
Yes, I think (and hope) we are not alone.

Welsh Wiz, there's really no outside. Look at it this way. Say you're in a room w/ 4 doors in each of the 4 walls, a ladder that goes into a hole in the ceiling, and a hole in the floor. You go west, and find out you're back in the same room. You go north and the same thing happens. You jump down the hole and end up in the same place. In fact, you can look into the next room and see yourself looking into the next room.
The universe is the room, 1 room. You can't go "outside", b/c any direction you go, you'll end up in the same place. Same thing applies (we think) when the universe was a pinhead.

I'm a strong believer that there is life elsewhere then this place...
Its common sense! How can we be the only planet that can sustain life, when there is an infinite space around us, with god only knows how many galaxies, with god only knows how many planets.
No one on this planet can say, as a fact, that it is impossible for there to be any other life form in the universe.
