I just thought this would be a cool topic to start.

Most of my best frieds were classmates. You usually tend to choose frieds who have something in common with you, though.

It's like what hd581 said, classmates.Since I have my final exams in a month,I will go to somekind of college after that (I don't know what to call it,because I am Dutch and the different kinds of schools have other names).Anyway,it's about the IT,what means I will find there a lot of people with the same interests there (I found a lot of people like that here).I hope I can make a lot of new friends there.

Unusual topic...but what the heck.

Believe it or not the very best friends I have are life-long buddies I grew up with since gradeschool. A bunch of us have been together for about 35 years now...
Kinda strange, really. Not quite normal for this day & age, especially in the suburbs!!

Says a lot about the neighborhood that so many of us are still here & bought homes near where we grew up! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

We tend to meet at random through friends or at unusual places.......like at a jazz fest for instance................another time at a drive through........it is always known to us when we meet......as soon as our eyes probe each others minds..........

I feel like sysopt is turning into something other than it was intended to be, a hardware optimization resource...sure we all had fun with the "hmmm" post but lets get back to real stuff. Thats just my opinion. I will see if Sysopt agrees with me or no. There just seems to have been a lot of junk posts in this forum lately.

Quote from Scott ( http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/005792.html )

It is primarily intended for computer related discussion that does not fit in the other categories - not so we can all chat about our favorite colors. I don't mind a bit of flavor now and then but today was wacky. Generally intelligent discussion regardless of subject (within reason) is fine (technology, politics, etc., but not "how many muscles do we use to smile", or "whether or not any of us have fallen from a roof").

I know what you mean.................but there is only so much tweaking a geek can talk about.............this place has become a home to many, and they feel that they want to just chat about different things then tweaking at times...........I can not say that I blame them.........I rarely chat here in the general discussion forum about anything..............but I do feel like these/us geeks have a right to talk about things other then tweaking.......I do realize that ultimatly it is up to sysopt what is spoken here............

How about a off topic lounge type of section of the forum........that would make general discussion becoma general hardware discussion.

I will agree. There are threads that are rather redundant. But for those of us that have been around here for a while now, this is part of our lives. You can't sit there and tell me that you wouldn't get the shakes if you couldn't log on to the Sysopt BBS for a day. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

If someone get's married, has a child, has a death in the family, or just has something joyeous happen to them, then they aren't allowed to post it in the General Discussion? After all, the General Discussion is for "Any discussion not covered in the topics below."

Oh well, I'm done ranting.

Since we don't yet have the chatroom we've all asked for, some of us need a place where we can post whatever's on our minds, even if it is incoherent babbling. I figure as long as it stays out of the more dedicated forums (tech support, motherboards, etc...) there's no harm in it. As long as it doesn't get out of hand... ("Hmmm" was kind of bad. lol)

I agree. It would be nice to have a place for general topics. But I think what the head honchos were trying to quelch is the amount of off topic posts by some newer members (nothing against them, we are all/still newbies at one time or another) who didn't really know what was the norm on this board. I'm sure now they do http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well maybe instead of having a general discussion channel they should have a general discussion chatroom.I can still remember the ?????? post that had about 30 replies of people saying !!!!!!,XXXX<%$@#@ etc.
P.S how many muscles does it take to smile?

I've had my best friends since I was placed in a sandbox with them about 42 years ago! This is a group of three very close friends that I socialize with and we go for rides multi times weekly listening to music and solving all the worlds problems. They're like brothers to me!! Even if we don't see each other for weeks, we can step right back into a conversation or activity or shoot some hoops or...
I also have a large circle of acquaintances (I have an easy time making friends) that I've made at school and at work and in town, that I socialize with as well.

And I also have my new "cyber friends and acquaintances" like you folks at SysOpt!!

My best friends are lifelong also. It's not weird , just unusual w/ migration and all. Throw in my ole college room-mate, and a few close relatives and we have a party.

Too bad we can't do something about these guys that keep whining about the "good old days" at SysOpt. Maybe they need a friend.

Thanks to the Sysopt administrators for having open minds and open forums.

I suppose the best way of putting it is that for every 100 aquatances you make, you may be lucky and get one life long friend, but if you have itchy feet like me it get expensive getting around to seeing them every now and then.
One thing I have found you can get to talk to many comrades on the net, and this is a different type of friendship, which I find people will stick out a lot more for than face to faces.
