Now it is sinking in to my thick skull! The BIOS checksum error sounds pretty gloomy to me. On some boards, there is something called, I think, the "BIOS boot block", which allows you to boot from the floppy when the BIOS is corrupted. You have to be able to at least boot from the floppy to flash the BIOS. Perhaps someone else can expand on this. If you can't boot from the floppy then you are hosed.

I had one board do this for me. It was my conclusion that the board is completely dead. You could order a new BIOS chip for $20-25 or just get a new motherboard.

Go here for all of your bios Q & A's...it also tells you how to use a controller card to get to the A: drive to use the boot block options.

Just an idea - have you cleared the cmos registers?

HEY GUYS IT'S OBVIOUS!

Post checks for CPU, VIDEO, RAM, Keyboard, THEN drives. NOTE DRIVES IS LAST.

Clearing CMOS will not correct problem #1.

Problem #1
{BIOS ROM checksum error
Keyboard error or no keyboard present}

This problem will usually present itself as a result of BLOWING A FUSE! This is usually caused by not touching the outside (grounding) of the connector to the case prior to plugging it in. The keyboard connector has a fuse next to it (more than likely marked "F1" or something similar). Find it, check for continuity and if infinity, find a junk board, pull and replace.

If the fuse shows good then you've more than likely got a fried Keyboard bios or keyboard section in your chipset.

Once you get the keyboard problem fixed you can go into BIOS and fix Problem #2.

AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER, press and hold the DEL key (or what ever particular combination your motherboard has). It will click or beep like crazy, but don't let up until the bios screen appears.
Sometime's the keyboard repeat timing is off. You just have to hold it down.

Once you get into BIOS, check ALL settings, changing one's you need to, and save and exit. REBOOT.

You should be ok at that point.

Check your RAM

Found following
Award BIOS Beep Codes:
Beeps
A.) 1l, 2s
Video adapter error
Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected
properly.

B.) Repeating
Memory error
Check for improperly seated or missing memory.

Award specifies these codes as the only valid beep codes.

not the memory tested it in another computer not the video card tested that too in another computer, not the floppy checked that too inaother computer, not the processor checked that in another computer as well, not the keyboard tested that too in another computer, just wish i had another bios chip that would work to check that, but right now still same old errors. they tell me its the bios chip but if anyone knows away to bypass the boot block please let me know i think if i can get the com to read from Floppy i can flash the bios unless someone knows another way to flash, and as always thanks for your responses they are deeply appriciated http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
