Last weekend I went down to a government auction to see if they had any old computer junk.I saw 3 pallets of 486 server towers, that I was told the hard drives had been removed because of sensitive data.

Next to them was a pallet of some really nice Full tower Aopen cases with 16x Cd roms.I pulled one off & checked the back it said Pentium 166, Aopen P5VM, 32 megs o ram.

I asked If I could bid on on them individualy in case the pallet price was to high.(Wanted to make sure I came home with at least one). So they pulled 2 off.The Auction was pretty dull till they got to the computers. The first one got up to $70.00(I quit at $60, hoping to get the next one a little less). Then the Auctioneer told the guy he was getting them all for $70.00 each ,he said no, he only wanted one at that price. Then everything thing got screwed up.

When the dust cleared I was loading A pallet & a half of Computers in my truck(LOL)Here's what I got,

6 of these babies
Aopen Full tower,80mm fan down front
Aopen P5VM M/B
6 - 5 1/2 Bays
3 - 3 1/2 bays (2hidden)
16x Aopen CD rom
Teac floppy
Sparkle 250W P/S
2.2 gig hard drives
Matrox Millenium PCI Video
32 megs 72 pin simms
SB sound cards
3Com 3c905-tx nic

1 of these
Aopen Desk top case
235W P/S
P 200 mmx
Aopen AX5T M/B
Aopen 24x CD rom
Matrox pwer desk vid
32 megs 72 pin simms
2.2 gig hard drive
Teac floppy
3 com Nic

Bought these because some one sat 2 of the Pentiums on top of the pallet http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
8 of the 486 servers
SCSI Bords
I was hoping for some 72 pin Simms
300 watt P/S
Tore them apart & found one board had 2 16 megs sticks of 72 pin Simms & dual Pentium 90's.

All most done, but it just keeps getting better(hang on) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

One of the P166's had a Iomega Jazz I gig SCSI drive in it, when I fird it Up, It showed 96 megs of edo ram. With an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card.(this must have been the tech's baby)Now it's mine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The P166's run at 200 mhz. all day long. And the 200 is running at 266 no problem. So what did Toro pay for these you might ask. Let me put it this way I sold one of the P 166's & it payed for the the whole truck load!!!!

I know this was a long message but I just had to share this find with my fellow tech heads. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Oh sure, now rub our faces in your good luck - I am green. Not that I could personally use them but I do know quite a good tax-donation-write-off when I see one; a lot of good could be done with those computers.

You sure had some good luck Toro! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

That's a great idea, CMonster. Even my HIGH school could use computers like that. Believe me, they suck http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif. Maybe keep a few for you but that still leaves many for a school. What else are you gonna do with them? Just a thought...

You made a killing, Toro. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Be glad I wasn't there, I'd have kept you honest.

Adaptec 2940 ?
Matrox Millenium ?
3Com 3c905-tx ?

Not exactly bottom-of-the-barrel parts for an auction...

I put the P266 in a new case for my wife, that she had picked a while back.Sold 3 of the P166's.The last 3 I want to try the remapped K6-2 400's in.
I'm not to familiar with the Jazz drive does it take a tape?
Hd, believe me there were plenty of people trying to keep me honest but the bidding got so screwed up on these computers,I just got lucky.

Actually, Toro## (and warthog), the Jazz drive is a removable disk. It has 2 metallic platters that store data much the same way as your hard disk. Can't remember the actual numbers on it but it's pretty darn fast. Hard drive comparable transfer rates, and access times, SCSI interface if I'm not mistaken. Just like a portable 1 GB hard drive.

Toro,

Great job! you are now officially (at least in my office) the "King of the Bargain Hounds". I never have anything like this happen to me, but I'm sure glad that you were able to get such a deal!!!

Good luck and happy (and numerous) computing!
