I have this little problem with my motherboard. After the machine sits for a while (say, overnight while I am asleep), and I come back in the AM to revive it, the USB ports are powered down and no longer function properly (it no longer lets my USB zip100 or my Logitech Wireless trackman work). I emailed abit a week ago and only *kinda* got a response from them here is the quote:

I know I know, the english is poor, but it sounds to me like I am not the only one with this problem. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this? I have emailed them two other times in the last 3 days with screen captures of my device manager and stuff...and they have not responded.
I am starting to get discouraged. I love Abit motherboards, but this is driving me nuts. Any advice? similar experiences? Thanks.

Yeah, I wrote them back saying "I didn't really understand your reply, can you please clarify for me?". That was two days ago. I think when Jeff was replying to kevin, he accidentally replied to me as well. I don't think I was the indended recipient of that email.

I have a KA7 and don't experience this problem (unless maybe this is something unique to the KA7-100?) Does it happen only after the system goes into suspend mode or doze mode? Try disabling the power management in the bios.

Have you installed all the lastest VIA 4 in 1 drivers?

Here is some USB information: http://www.usbman.com/Guides/VIA%20Tips%20and%20Tricks.htm

There have also been some problems with USB on the Abit KT7 also, although I have not experienced any with mine. I know that there is a patch from Micro Soft for Win98SE and the via chipset. (I'm running orig. 98)

just to add to the result base- i didn't have any probs with usb on my ka7. then again, however, i didn't use it that much (scanner, camera, and pda port) so i don't know if it was just luck or what....

I got another response from Abit today. He pointed me to a Microsoft Article: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q246/7/55.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=g
n&FR=0&qry=Disable%20ACPI&rnk=10&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WIN2000. But, I don't get those error messages, nor do I have a USB that is less than rev 5.0 (and I think he should have known this because its his company's board, and it has rev 10).

There is also a new way to get help from Abit. You can post to an Ultimate Message board here:
http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

Thought this could help some people out.
