Last week I reformatted my computer in an attempt to stop the continuous 'freezing' I was experiencing. [That was a good way to discover that the guy who installed it didn't give me the CD to install the drivers!!] While trying to load the drivers (without the correct disc) I stumbled on the SysOpt discussion forum on the Super 7 and AGP compatibility. Reformatting the computer did serve to reduce the regularity of the freezes for a while, but now I'm having just as much trouble all over again. I'm wondering if it is related to the Super 7 Series mainboard?? [Gigabyte model GA-5AX (Rev5)]

I am really uneducated in this area, so my questions may seem terribly facile. My monitor is running a plug and play driver, and the adaptor installed is 'Trident 3D Image 9750 (PCI/AGP v4457a)'. In the
discussion I read, most people were talking about their video drivers etc. At the risk of displaying my ignorance - I don't think I have a video driver as such. Are the compatibility problems that everyone was discussing confined to video devices? Is there another driver which may be more reliable?

Before the correct drivers for the motherboard were loaded, the default system selected some VGA thing, and the computer worked very well (but I was limited to 16 colours - that I cannot handle!). Was this more likely to be chance, or is it possible that my mainboard doesn't like everything else I'm doing. My problems are predominantly with the web, but the system often crashes even when Im typing in word.

Any suggestions??

Standard recommendation here is to go to the manufacturer's websites for updates. http://www.tridentmicro.com for the video card.
http://www.ali.com.tw for the chipset drivers.

you don't need the motherboard driver disk, you can download all you need from the web. (See jeff7s reply). I have the same motherboard, and although they are not the best, it runs fine. I would take the h/sink and fan off the cpu and see what chip you have, cyrix,AMD,or Intel, and write down what it say's on the chip. Then see if the dip swithes match what you have written down. (The settings for the switches are etched on to the board). If in doubt post a reply, or mail me and I will let you know the correct settings.
Hope this helps,
Bob.
