I have a Hsin Tech MB release 4/28/1997S
SN VX PRO-UMC8670-2A5LAH09C-00
I'm having problems getting my printer to work, keeps saying printer error can't find LPT1 port. Is it possible the port is dead?
I've have tried different settings in Bios with no results. Thanks for any help http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Hi Bob, this is a PCCHIPS MoBo aka VX-Pro. Those boards are well kown as problematic things. IFReeman gives you a way to find out if the Lpt1 port is ok or have some sharing or drive missing problem, try to install the port again using the "Find new hardware" windows utility.
Good luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

If you look in device manager under the ports setting, is there an icon for the lpt1 port? If there is does it have a yellow exclamation mark next to it, if you go into the preferences does it tell you that the device is working properly?
If not then you could try going into add new hardware and manually telling it to install a printer port.
Hope this helps.

M537 "VXpro" actually isn't too bad a board.
You can find out whether your LPT port is toast by connecting some old inkjet or pin printer that still can do plain text printing.
Then boot to dos, type "copy autoexec.bat >lpt1" (without the quotes), and see if anything happens on the printer.
If it is fried (which is quite easy to do through electrostatic discharge), just go buy an ISA printer port card for $8, and you're back in business.
