I seen in toms hardware that you cant get 100mhz out of a LX base board the number at startup is W977-2A69JG0FC-00(GA-686LX3) i'm trying to get my PII300 up to 450 i have a SL2W8 (300) made in week 36 and it is a Costa Rica (08360102-0127) cpu numbers

If I am correct and it's using the Intel 440LX chipset, odds are that the highest it'll do is somewhere ~83 Mhz FSB, though you should check the motherboard FSB jumpers to verify that. The 440LX chipset was designed to do 66, while the 440BX (the successor to the LX) was designed to be a 100mhz chip.
Bottom line: I doubt it'll work. However, if the motherboard has the jumper settings for 100mhz FSB and you want to try, go right ahead.

HEY NIGHTHAWK i have tried the 100mhz jumper settings but it wont post ( no beeps or video) someone suggested uping the voltage and yup its the 440LX so i guess im stuck with 374mhz at 83.3*4.5 oh well guess i will try to find a BH6 mobo if i could crack open my cpu case i'd see if it had a 4.4 or 5 latency time if it is the 4.4 i've seen stats on them running at 504 on a BH6 THANKS ,,

If it matters, I actually have an unused BH6 sitting around that I'm looking to get rid of. If you find what you're looking for on the CPU, email me. Thied1@theglobe.com

No, you can get 100MHz out of an BX based board, but as far as I know not an LX board. The max FSB for LX based boards is (as my friend correctly pointed out) 83 MHz.
It probably won't post because it can't run that high. Now run along and find a BX board.

This should have stayed all in one post.

Hey gang i took the plundge i just orderd a BH6 and get this some crucial pc133 ram (128 megs) i couldnt find any with a very low latency rate 7.5 was all i seen but thats better than 9ns. Um i have one question should i use my pc66 to set my system up for the first boot. i've got a PII 300 that fixin to get the dust blown out of it yeee haaa.... i have some great cooling fans external 65cfm (115v) and a global duel cpu fan on it now ..... i just love fan noise wish me luck and hopefully i'll be posting some benchmarks later. yea yea I know it aint much to play with but at least the BH6 will let me put on a PIII later thats why i got the pc133 now ...low prices

I see no reason to use the PC66 for the first startup.
About the CPU; I had an SL2W8, on an Abit VA6. With a crappy cooler and good case ventilation mine did 558 mhz stable @ 2.3V. I can guarantuee you yours will do 450mhz at least, probably at 2.0V. Good luck with it! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have asked this question before but i need a link to download for instructions or just tell me. can i change this mobo without haveing to reformat. i reformated two weeks ago, i was gonna go to safe mode and take out my cards (video, modem, sound)before i make the switch then just put in the video for boot up. after i load the defaults for bios and drivers put the rest back in. BTW yea just a little nervous

This stuff from Tom's Hardware guide was quite helpful to me:
How to get all slot1 66mhz FSB cpu's to run at 100mhz (http://www4.tomshardware.com/cpu/98q2/980514/index.html)
Overclocking special - The Intel PII SL2W8 (http://www4.tomshardware.com/cpu/98q4/981215/index.html)
You don't have to take all cards out or format your harddisk, but you may have to re-install Windows. Don't worry about it and have fun overclocking that beast! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey i just read out of a review here at sysopts (forgot the link) of the abit BH6 that the tester couldnt get good results useing pc100 ram at 112mhz so he put in the pc66 and it ran fine at 112mhz. my question is this i have a BH6 on the way and i also bought 128megs of PC133 from crucial that + the 128megs i already have of PC133, is this config not going to work for me at 100mhz fsb i bought it for future upgrades. man im thinkin bad thoughts.
