I'm building a new Athlon 600 mhz Slot A based system. I bought a new
motherboard with the AMD Irongate Chipset. The motherboard is a
OAASN Jabil (Kadoka) AMD Motherboard built for Gateway (Gateway part #4000646). The available documentation is very poor. After extensive searching Gateway's Website, I'm turning to you for help. My new Mid-Tower case has individual Front Panel Harness Connectors for:
(HDD LED, Power LED, Power SW, & Reset SW). The documentation for the Motherboard assumes the case has a (2x8) plug for the Front Panel Harness. Without the Pin-Out for that (2x8) connector I can't plug my Individual Front Panel Harness connectors onto the correct Pins. I thought maybe someone out there has one of these boards, and would have this information. Bye the way, the Jabil Website was of no help either. This is the 4th AMD Processor based system I have built for my Family over the years. Each time The Front Panel Harness has been individual connectors & the Motherboard Documentation clearly stated what the Pin-Out was for all Pins on the Motherboard so this has never been an issue. Needless to say, I,m anxious to get this new system up & running. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I even went to a Gateway store to try & buy the front panel harness connector, they don't sell or order them. What now? Someone out there has one of these boards, Talk to me please.

Weird. I thought only Dell had those stupid connectors for the front panel.

My roommate wanted to replace his Dell mobo about six months ago, and after we had ordered a Via Apollo Pro 133, we found out that his front-panel was connected thru one of those (2x8) connectors. So I had to trace the wires back to the lights and switches in the front of the case. Turns out that only 8 total of the pins are even used. Here's the pinout of the connector, from the top with pin 1 in the right top corner:

Pin 1: HDD LED GND
Pin 2: PWR LED GND
Pin 3: HDD LED +5V
Pin 4: PWR LED +5V
Pin 5: RESET
Pin 6: PWR-ON
Pin 7: RESET
Pin 8: PWR-ON
Pins 9-16 are unused.

So, the HDD LED is across pins 1 and 3, the power LED is across pins 2 and 4, the reset switch shorts pin 5 to pin 7, and the power switch shorts pin 6 to pin 8. The polarity on the switch pins doesn't matter, because they're just momentary SPST switches.

For my roommate's comp, we ended up having to etch a PCB with a mapping from his (2x8) connector to normal 1x2 and 1x3 connectors to the Via mobo. It's a sort of a hack, but it works fine.

Now granted, this is a Gateway mobo and not a Dell, but I think it'd be the same.

Hope this helps,

Bryan
