I recently bought a new system with an ASUS A7V MoBo. After installing the ASUS Probe system monitoring software that came with the unit, I began to receive alarms about the -12 volts being beyond the 10% default threshold. Actually I have never seen the specified voltage in the -12 volt range. It always seems to be at a minimum of -13.07 and have seen it go as low as -13.85. This happens with the slightest taxing on the system, just "exploring" the hard drive contents or spinning up the dvd.
I have spoken to the retailer that I bought the system from, and he's not able to steer me in any proper direction. All he could tell me is that he warrants the hardware for one year. I have also sent an e-mail to ASUS tech support, but have not gotten any response.
My question is what could be causing this extreme condition and is it something that I should be concerned about. I want to add supplemental hardware, but I am being a little cautious until I know more about this condition.

If your system is stable, I would ignore the warning and just set the warning threshold to 15%. I have received similar warnings with AsusProbe when building A7V-based systems with lower-wattage or lower-quality power supplies. However, all of these systems are still working perfectly fine with no problems.

What size and brand power supply are you currently using?

I have had this happen with two differnet PSs. One died after showing system instability and the other was fine and stable. i would agree with RR's advice above...

I appreciate the reply Rob and Dave. This is a new system and when I see things of this nature, I tend to get a little concerned. I was told by a co-worker not to worry about the alarm and just to shut down the monitoring software, but I figured if they went through the trouble of supplying this software with the system, I might as well use it. I will set the low voltage set-point to 15%, but as I stated I have seen the it go to -13.85 which is a little more that the 15%.
I will take your advice and not pay too much attention to this alarm. I will watch for any type of instability in the system, hopefully I will not have any performance issues. My REAL concern is the type of unit that Dave referred to. The one that GAVE UP THE GHOST!
THANKS AGAIN,
