I have friend that bought a combo deal from Tigerdirect for me to assemble. What he received was an Athlon 950 Slot A T-bird and the Soyo K7VIA (KX133 chipset)mobo. He installed the mobo, properly installed a dual fan heat sink (shipped with the processor) and then installed the processor in the mobo. Upon power-up nothing happened, no video, just p/s fans and heat sink fans came on. I determined that the proc is a T-bird and AMD says that it won't work with the KX133 mobo. My friend has since bought a 550 K7 classic Athlon, but when it is installed in the mobo, the same result; p/s fans, heat sink fans, nothing else.

Did the T-bird damage the mobo and vice versa to the T-bird?

What size is the power supply? I had an identical problem that was solved when I put a 300W Power supply in. Mine was originally 250W. Apparently Athlons are EXTREMELY picky about Power supplies, and in fact AMD has an "approved power supply" list you can check.

Good Luck!

AMD began making Slot A T-birds in 9/2000. The T-birds use the newer 0.18 micron layer technology. They are not compatible with the VIA KX133 chipset. AMD, and Soyo have assured me that no damage to processor or motherboard will occur if they are mixed. The Slot A T-birds are recommended to be combined with AMD 750, 751,756 chipset motherboards. Incidentally, the techs at Soyo assisted in diagnosing a DOA motherboard anyway. A Gigabyte 7IXE mobo is on order to go with the T-bird (this is the only recommended Slot A mobo by AMD).

How can it be a T-Bird when it's in the Slot A form?? I thaught T-Birds were only made in the Socket A form and the original Athlons were made in the Slot A form.
