Ho Boy I should have eaten those blackeyed peas. I have been having problems with my slot 1 system every since I built it. It is a pcchips m726 with a PII 350, 128 meg of ram. All bought off ebay. Video and net card bought new. Downloads from pcchips.com.tw.
At first it would not shutdown to a safe screen. Then it slowly came around to shutdown correctly. Did a mixed up install of win98 and lastly lost control of the second IDE port. no on boot it stops forward progress right after ram check with a TREND CHIPAWAYVIRUS ON GUARD wait>>> that is it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Have I circume to a virus and if so can I get read of it. I just had a thought I will clear the cmos over night.

comments please

I'd try to reinstall windows with trend antivirus disabled. You can enable it later once you're setup. I understand that the antivirus really interferes with program installation.

Cedar2 might just have the answer!

I didn't enable Chipaway until after I was pretty much set up. (That may be the reason I didn't have any problem.) Once I was set up, I enable it for BIOS protection from harm and everything has been fine since.

I thought I had the virus disabled but I ran best setup in bios and that my have turned it back on.

Trouble now is I can't get into bios setup with the del button.

The cmos clear just removed the chipawayvirus warning but the bios still stalls right after the ram check.
