Is there a registry edit that can be made to stop Auto Disconnect while online?
It's not because of my ISP because I haven't had it all the time. It started happening when I reformatted. Using Netscape 4.5/Win98
Thanks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I am not sure but go to Control Panel/Modems then Modem properties =>Dialing Properties =>Conection you have Calling Preferences.

You could look here:
Go to the control panel-and click on Internet Options, when there click the connections tab.
when there, click on the "settings" button (within the dial-up settings area), then click on the "advanced" button, within the Advanced Dial-up Settings window make sure the "disconnect when connection isn't needed..." box isn't checked.
If it is click on it to uncheck it. That might do the trick. Then again I use a different browser (but I use Windows 98 as my OS)
Hope that helps.

Nope..neither one helps. Thanks anyway.
everj - I think your option only works when using IE.

Sorry, missed the browser ver the first time around.
Search the reg for "disconnect".
I think if you change the "enableAutodisconnect" from 01 to 00 it will kill automatic disconnections globally...???
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\software\microsoft\windows\Cur rentVersion\Internet Settings>EnableAutoDisconnect
I use Navigator, IE and Opera and none of them autodisconnect with this set to 00, but I'm not sure this is actually the reason...

I thought disconnection was from the ISP end, due to usage time and idle time.
At least that's what I remember from my modem days of before..... (Gee, I wish everyone had a cable modem!)

That's what I had heard, BBA, but I've used Mindspring forever and it wasn't until I reformatted and reinstalled about 6 months ago that it started.
There are two disconnect points in my registry. I have one at 00, and need to change the other and see.

Just tried changing the other entry, but NG... I would think it should, no? It's a Windows box that pops up!

Maybe the folks at Mindspring can lend a hand. Just threaten to change ISPs. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I'm in the same boat & it's driving me crazy.
I use IE & Net Comm and it happens in both.
In the REGISTRY I looked for all references to "DisconnectIdleTime" & type a 0 instead of 5 (the 5 min. time limit) and also under
"EnableAutoDisconnect" typed 0 instead of 1.
It worked until I rebooted & then all my changes went back to the defaults themselves.
I could try going from 5 to 999999?
I've been searching the net for an answer & I cannot believe that nobody has written to the PC Magazines with this problem...they should have it under "Undocumented Hints & Tips"
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

A place that may assist.
Also if yougo into {modem properties/configure/connection/advanced/view log}
It will give you info on your last connection.
It may say what disconnected you.
