I just picked up this mobo with a PII 233. I`m loading it into my new box with a good HD, new pc100 memory, new cables(with #1 pin in the right spot). My problem is it won`t POST. When I turn it on the HD spins, the fans come on and then it just hangs. No video( also a good vid card), no POST, no beeps...no nothing. My seller...a reputable SYSOPT seller is searching for a manual, as am I , to check out the jumpers to see if I`ve missed anything. What do you think it could be? I`ve also pulled the processor and tried it in another board ...ok. Let me know. Gary

Try placing your dimms in the 1st available slots (DIMM 0) , dont put it in the center ,
Make sure processor is seated correctly (make sure it even works)
Make sure the card is seated correctly , try a spare vid card

Yes...been there..done that...I`ve got one stick of 64mb pc100 in the first slot next to the eide connectors(tried it in all 3 just to make sure),have tried 3 vid cards all known to function, tried the processor in another board...A-ok,seated and re-seated all cards/cables/connectors all with the same results.............
Still looking, Gary

I think you're putting the ram in the last slot, not the first. The slot closest to the processor is the first.

I`ve built 3 other units using the 440LX mobo and they all used the ram slot I described as the first slot but anything is worth trying once so I did and, sorry...the same response. Thanks for the thought. Gary
Just a thought...some of these boards used pc66 ram....I`ve got pc100. I know you can use pc133 on a pc100 board, but does it work the same for pc66/pc100?

the 440lx should run pc-100 with oit a problem
have you checked all the jumpers on the board espesialy the bios recovery jumper ? to make sure they are set right ?
you can also try reflashing the bios with the recovery jumper see if it will at least try that ?

Run that sucker thru the dishwasher http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Try taking out the mainboard from the case and see if it will post, if it does, it may be due to the mainboard grounding from the case. If that's the case, try using some non-metalic washers...

I just got an online manual for the beast and I`m going to try the last 3 suggestions...I`m saving the dishwasher for last. Gary

Weeeell....I forgot to mention that this came from a PB......after studying the trusty manual which isn`t too specific, I discovered a note that says this mobo handles ONLY pc66 memory. This does kind of go with what I`ve been thinking and just as I was cleaning out the dish washer, too. Like I mentioned earlier in this post, I`ve built other units with this style/type board but they all used pc100 so maybe I`ll find some 66 and try that, can`t hurt. Gary

I was thinking that too after all the other things didn't work...
There are actually mainboards that WON'T work with PC100/133 or with a certain memory size (could be 32,64,128 or 256 mb and up).So it could also be the 64megs.

I've got a bud that is running that PB board with PC-100 I reflashed the bios with the real intel one, you have to do it in recovery mode. Man does it make ya sweet doing a recovery flash http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
now when ya boot up it says MADE BY INTEL not PackardSmell http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif it will also take up to a celly 450 or there abouts if i remember right with the intell bios
the latest pb bios says it will work ( NOT )
any way for all the best bios support I would flash that baby with the intell bios http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
it not that it wont run PC-100 it's that it wont run the PC-100 you have in it more than likly http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

The board is an Intel...I haven`t gotten into the bios yet to see if it says PB on bootup and I only use Micron and Kingston memory so I don`t think that would be an issue. I`ve got some pc66 coming and , also, the manual did say it could use any combination of 32mb sticks and higher...I`ll let you know what happens when the 66 arrives.....Scotter, I`m running Celeron 400s in my other units with pc100 so that`s why I`m a lttle baffled....haven`t tried a bios flash, yet...some day. if that board came out of a packbell computer it is a standard intel mobo with a packbell bios in it that will not handle a cellie 400 it will only see p2 up to 266 max anything else even any of the cellies will give you a black screen reflash the bios and I bet it will work as is with the PC-100 memory in it
as I said above to flash it with the intel bios you have to do it in recovery mode and I'll bet your gona have to have a P2-233 or 266 chip in it to do it

some of the older boards will see some kinds some wont even some of the newer boards have problems running some memory even the same kind just diff manufacturers make a diff

Well...that was a waste of time...about a week and a half of waiting for my 2day air pc66 to show up and I get the same results.
Scotter...I have tried 8x8x64 and 16x4x64 in this unit.I have a feeling it`s the mobo...anyway I have another mobo coming. I`ll play with this one later when I have more time.Gary
