try installing a controller card and just use the serial port(for the mouse ) or a card for a ps 2 mouse

There are two pinouts for com port headers on m/b's so you need to use the correct cable. The manual for this board doesn't give the pinout so it's a guess which one you need unless you take apart the cable you are using, or get a loopback plug to test it. If I remember correctly the "IBM" pinout is 1,3,5,7,9 down one side and the "Intel" pinout is 1,2,3,4,5 down one side. In any case, the correct connector should be readily available and using it will avoid the bios hassles of extra com, lpt, etc that an i/o card will cause.
I have one of these boards (V2.0) and am looking for a bios update to run a 686L-200. Do you have any info on where I could find one. The manufacturers sites are no help. I haven't set the board up yet except to test it, but if you get stuck, I'll dig it out and test the cable type.

I have recently experienced similar problem.

I installed an old multi-game card with serial port that supported the mouse.
I was lucky, had the card from computers gone by.

Drawback: I cannot use the mouse and the
A: drive at the same time.
I have to unplug the multi Game card to use A Drive.
Mouse selections on BIOS lets me choose
Com 1,2,3 or 4.
I have tried every combination and cannot get the original Serial port to work.

This computer was a cheapy from a friend.
It has no brand name and I am not gonna pull the mobo to check for names and numbers.

I will live with the mouse working until I really need the A: drive, then I will unplug Multi card and go forward. This will soon be my sister's machine, poor dear, I will be her tech support when needed.

bottom line: Adding new card with serial port may enable a serial mouse to run, if there are no device conflicts, or if you can live with the problem, or sell it to your sister...

Good Luck,

Chronk

Does that board have an available ISA slot. I have a microsoft Inport card and mouse that would work if it does.
