Hey, does anyone know who that Black-haired woman in the Sprint commercials is? Not that I'd ever be able to meet her, but, I would love to know her name!
She's my newest fantasy, after my wife and Heather Graham.
Besides Scott, I did say after my wife, you know... I love my wife, and would never cheat on her, I just thought that Sela Ward (that's how you spell it.......) was very pretty, and wanted to know her name.
I have kids, don't beat them or my wife, or my dog, and don't even drink and stopped smoking about a month ago.
And I enjoy talkiong to women in a non-agressive manner. Actually, I prefer the company of women, that's why I married my wife. I prefer her company to that of any man I've met.
Hmmmmmmmmm, guess that's the way it oughtta be.
so.......
anyway...Have a Great weekend!

I'd have to agree with grandslammer, I usually prefer the company of women and not for the reasons some guys prefer their company...you know, with "those" thoughts in mind.
My very smart & wonderful wife and I have 3 daughters and would love it if one of em at least went into something hi-tech, there's no reason why they can't. It's proven that the industry, especially the internet desperately needs women with hi-tech knowledge. I recently saw a news article about ivillage...now those two women are MY fantasy. Veeery rich & smart they are! But most all the people working behind the scenes at ivillage, in the hitech jobs there are still men.
After all is said and done, both men and women will always appreciate the beauty of the opposite sex and just as long as there is respect along with that, let's enjoy life's beauty & pleasures http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks Barney, great picture.... And yeah Chainsaw, every time I see one of those sprint coommercials, well I really like her.
See, she doesn't come across as sleazy or anything. She's not the most beautiful woman in the world either. BUT, I find her very attractive. She comes across as an intelligent woman, and having fun with what she's doing. I find that incredibly sexY! Oopss, did I say that?
As far as women in Hi-Tech, well both of my daughters are beautiful, and I expect them to be just as beautiful when they get older (hopefully I'll have a little hair left when they're dating!?!?!?) and they both have an interest in computers, the 'net and communications.
I find a woman who is intelligent, secure in herself and her surroundings, and well-versed to be incredibly sexy. And, I think we all would prefer to be around an intelligent woman as opposed to a bubble-head.
So, to any women who read this post, obviously you must be at least a little ahead of the class, just to be here reading it in the first place. If it offends you, then I appologize from the bottom of my heart. It was not meant to do so, and I would feel no ill will if you rated your favorite actors, personalities or men in general.
All of you have a great weekend, okay? Promise me now.............
If you are to start censoring posts about human nature that are not vulgar, incensitive, sexist etc., I think you are going backwards instead of forwards.
I have never seen anything on this board that has been posted by anyone that would offend a female.
If it is the pictures posted of the female gender that some females find are offending, I suggest that it may be somewhat of a jealous nature, as to why they are complaining.
As you stated...SysOpt should appeal to both men and women. If women want to post pictures of men, then they should be allowed to do so.
If the women feel that they do not want to view women pictures, then they have that right to not look at them, just the same as men have the right not to look at the pictures of men that women want to post. But humans are curious and that is not wrong. That is nature.
Personally, I think that women pictures are nicer to look at than men pictures and women should feel good that men appreciate their beauty.
If people posted porn or adult content pictures, then I think your comment would be warranted. But these are pictures of decent beauty and I do not find anything wrong with that.
This is only my opinion and I am not trying to start a war here.
But of course, we should abide with your request if so asked. I only ask that you think about what I have said.
Thank you.

On the contrary, there have been two former threads consisting of photos of women in danger of falling out of their clothing. Women have contacted me regarding those and I defended the threads. However, I do agree that they are overdoing it a bit (as does Earthweb upper-management) and you do have to be careful about what some people may find offensive, especially a large group of people that I would like to see more of on this site as representative of a real society/community.

It would be good to curb the girl-crazy posts. SysOpt should appeal to both men and women and I know that some women are irritated by threads like these. FYI
We need more women in CompSci, not less: http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,35654,00.html?tw=wn20000420

If it is the pictures posted of the female gender that some females find are offending, I suggest that it may be somewhat of a jealous nature, as to why they are complaining.Regardless of whether or not this is true, it does give the internet a "guy's world" type of feel. As Scott said, we're trying to attract women to computers. It's not any huge sacrifice on our part to refrain from these posts, so if it'll even out the gender ratio, I support leaving these types of threads out altogether.
There are sites all over the web devoted to women (and some devoted to men if that's your taste). Get your fill there before coming here.

Oh boy, I dooooo find Sela very "opposite-sexual" to me. Her looks and on-screen aura are most anti-androgenous!
And in case the Thought Police want to know, I find her quite sexy too!

Maybe we should try to tone it down a bit here...

Well, if I had posted a pic like the one of Jennifer Lopez in the "dress?" well, I could uinderstand that, but all I did was give an attractive woman a mention. The only picture I saw was one of a conservatively dressed woman, in a conservative pose.
Anyway, this is hardly woth argueing over, I concede. Conflict should be reserved for more important things than this.
But, I never posted a picture of a half-naked woman............I shouldn't get **** over what others do/did!
Have a good weekend...

Mike,I don't think it was meant (just) for you,but because the conversation about Sela turned into one about women on the web.
I posted this pic because there were clearly some people interested in.I don't know the Sprint commercials and I didn't know who she was, until I saw her picture.
It wasn't meant to be offensive (I don't think it is),neither were the comments about her by other members.
I think that ladies here should post their photo's with George Clooney or another guy they think is sexy,if they want.

You're absolutely right Barney, it wouldn't bother me in the least if they did just that! I have no problem with that, and see it as only fair.
I'm just saying - the picture you posted was, well it looked as harmless as a school yearbook photo....
I'd be interested in hearing (viewing) women's outlooks on men, what they like in men, and so on - as long as it wasn't "graphic" I avoid that myself, and feel it is offensive, be it from men or women, at least in a forum like this. Something lke that would absolutely have no place here.
Oh well, I'm getting bored with this one. Y'all have fun now, 'ya hear?

come on ladies, start a **** thread of sexy guy picsNo, there shouldn't be pictures of guys, either. I'd really hate to see this great BBS hosting posts like "MY DREAM GUY!!!" or "ISN'T THIS CHICK HOT??!?!" Sounds like the kind of **** my hotmail box is getting packed with. (just the chick stuff, though)
I said you can find this on so many other places on the internet. Is there any pressing reason it has to be here? You're right, Grandslammer, that picture does look harmless and I wish we could have an intelligent discussion about what we like to see in the opposite sex (ambition/brains/sense of humor) but I'm afraid it'll deteriorate into a picture posting fest (b/c it has). the internet has such a guy feel to it......blahI'm reading a little sarcasm here, ytay.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Last post on this one for me, I promise!
This is a forum for computer users. Computer professionals and the weekend hacker. People who spend their lives on the 'net, and those who hit maybe once a day, maybe a co0uple of times a week.
The thing is, we all have some things in common. But our lives don't revolve around computers. (well, not all of us anyway!)
So, here we are, all of us here. How many now? Let's see...7971 of us. Hmmm... We're bound to have other interests we share. I've seen music posts, yes, girl posts, hardware and software of course..., news, current events, pet peeves, you name it, we have it! But I don't see too many girl posts at all... Now, don't get me wrong, I'll respect the people who don't want me to do this again, no problems here......... But I just wanted to say that there are a boatload of us, and we're all as different as we are similar. So we're bound to have "off topic" posts.
Now I'm done, I put my soapbox back in it's leather carrying case and I'll toss it in the closet. Sorry we bumped heads on this one, but with 7971 people, that's bound to happen.
take care all... and remember
"nickel cross the state, nickel cross the country!"
HA!

I really didn't want to kick this up to the top again but here goes anyway:
Off topic posts are ok, in moderation. Yes, a community must have discussions of a variety of subjects to truly be defined as a community. However, the subject must not offend people within reason. This thread is not too offensive, I'm just saying that some women are annoyed at seeing guys posting threads on a professional site to drool over girls, whether they be in danger of falling out of their clothing (as in previous cases) or not.
I even got an email from a guy saying that he was irritated to see a "cheesecake" thread on our site so it's not just limited to women. The bottom line is that although this site does tend to cater to people who are hardware enthusiasts, it does so in a professional manner and is representing EarthWeb. It's not a gamerz or warez d00d hobby site.
I think SysOpt's audience is fantastic and I'm just trying to do my part to maintain high standards around here. I wouldn't trade this audience for that of any other hardware related site out there (except it would be great if you all would click on the ads a bit more often! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif ).

Since , I feel, that the main problem with the objection to these kinds of posts is equality. And to let the girls have more input and be more of the " in crowd" ,let them there own forum for the boys to visit!!!
They can do "girl ' chat, post their own pictures of guys and themselves , if they wish, without the fear of being subjected to the pressures of the "man " only atmosphere.
What ya think Socalgal? Just an idea http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, I agree to what Scott has said on the subject. This IS a professional site and people come here for computer related issues, not cheesecake http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
While I personally have no problem with these kinds of threads (even helps my commitment to stay fit http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ) and occasional OT subjects, we have to keep in mind the nature of this site and the people who come here.
