I've got a mobo here with the SiS 5598 chipset on it--it comes out of an old Packard Bell.
<waits for the laughing to stop>
Here's all I know: She uses three jumpers to control the FSB speed, yet lists only four FSB speeds--50,60,66, and 75. According to my calculations, she should have at least NINE--yet I've tried several other combos and failed to get a response--the machine simply sits dead.
She also uses only EDO RAM and has NO identifiable manufacturer name.
So, couple questions:
First of all, any chance of coming up with an updated BIOS for this sucker and/or identifying its make/model?
Secondly, any chance of getting it's FSB above 75, to 83?
It's currently running a Cyrix MII 300--I plan to replace it with a K6-2 450 or 500, (it supports a 5.5X multiplier) but would like to get that bus speed up.
Help?

Maybe it is a PCCHIPS motherboard..! I think PCChips is one of the manufacturers that uses the most SiS chipsets and stuff available to make cheap systems. Did you checked the pcchips.com or pcchips.nl websites?

go here: <A HREF="http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142/pcchips/" TARGET=_blank>http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142/pcchips/</A> and search on Do not know that board and see if you can find it liek yours. if so you have some info.
Also go here http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/8774/
since its from a PB.
Good Luck.

Dpu, don't laugh, those mobos will get you here just as sure as an expensive one, and leave something in your wallet. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Sounds like a PcChips M571 board -- the first version of those types, and doesn't have a 83MHz FSB setting. 75 FSB should work, and w/the AMDK6, the 2X multiplier is actually 6X. Probably a good idea to flash the latest BIOS, 990421s.rom (make sure to get the right mobo-version file).

I'll bet that board is a BCM/GVC IN5598. The Packard Bell version posts as a FR550 or FR500... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Ed_S got us a Great Deal on a couple of these boards a while back. I flashed the bios with the IN5598 .bin file to get rid of the Packard Bell info. Built a couple of nice systems with K6-2 400's. They are still doing what they are suppose to... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Ok, so let me get this straight:
There IS a BIOS flash I can use that will over-write properly?
Does it enable more settings? ( I can't do **** with this P.B. BIOS)
Will these suckers break 75 Mhz FSB?

Yup. Turns it back to a regular board. I'll have to check to see if its still posted. The BCM site has been down. I believe 83.3 mhz is available... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

That's what I'm wanting to do. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Can you get me FSB settings for that 83.3?

If you can get it to 83 then you can run a K6/2 500 at 6*83. I'm running that on an M571 and it runs great.
