I just set up a Tyan S1598 with a K6-233 for my brother. Running Win98SE, when shut down from Windows, it won't boot up again until it's shut back down from the power switch. I've rechecked the bios settings, pnp os is on, am I missing something else? It runs fine except that you have to start it twice to get it booted up.

Thanks,

foth

If you have the model with the VIA (PC133) chipset, there is a "4 in 1" driver upgrade, which may or may not help.

Also, set your on/off in bios to soft off and see if that helps.

Good Luck...

The 1598 is a super 7 board, no PC-133. I'd check if fast shut down is enabled in the msconfig area.

1598 uses VIA MVP3 chipset, and that one won't mind updated VIA drivers either. The 4-in-1 is equally suitable, since MVP3 also has all the features driven by it.

I'm new to win98, and hadn't seen msconfig. I can't figure out where fast shut down is though. I'm using an Epox mb with the same VIA MVP3 chipset, and I didn't see fast shut down listed on any tab. I'll try the 4-in-1 drivers and see if that helps.

Thanks guys,

Try this, "start">"run">"type in msconfig ">"enter">"click on the advanced tab ", disable fast shutdown will be on that screen.

I open msconfig, don't have an advanced tab. There is an advanced button on the general tab, but no mention of fast shutdown there. There are 6 tabs, general, config.sys, autoexec.bat, system.ini, win.ini, and startup. Would it make a difference because this is Win98SE (upgrade)? I'll be working on this Sunday, hope to have it taken care of.

Thanks to all,

foth

Yeah, it isn't in the early version of SE, try using windows update to get the newer version.
