Read THIS (http://cnnfn.com/2000/04/21/technology/amd/).....what do you think this will mean? I think it will boil down to higher athlon prices and the spitfires being released for a good bit more then projected,also if intel can produce before then it will take back some more of its already massive marketshare that has been slowly petered to AMD in the past months.

This might be a good time for VIAtech to come up with a good CPU.
If the Intels and AMD's become rare,the prices will raise until there is competition (VIAtech?) that can sell a good CPU for a good price.

Higher prices for any cpu?

Hey guys, AMD is a Japanese corp, right? So if we look at history, and pay attention to what Japan has done over the last 20-40 years, we can pretty much make the assumption that AMD would not let themselves get into a bind like this especially when Intel is getting ready to launch a large sortie to crush AMD. I believe that AMD is stockpiling their stuff to push it back out into the market at a fraction of their going price after Intel puts everything they've got on the table, therefore forcing Intel to lower prices to the point that they will not be able to recoup finances.
Or maybe AMD really has run out, in which case tells us that Intel has met their match in selling their overpriced wares.

Originally they are a Japanese based company, I think - check out AMD's site for more info - oops guess I confused that with AMDs joint ventures with Fujitsu and NEC.. - the FAB facility in Dresden Germany is new;
so they haven't been made in Germany very long.
Oblivian - I still can't see why you are so stuck on Intel... Canadian stubbornness I guess is derived from the French. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Ok...I guess I'll be straight with you guys.
I DON'T SEE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEL AND AMD.
As long as someone gives me a processor that works and is not way over my budget, I'll be happy. Too many of you seem to religiously side with AMD. It's like they can do no wrong.
Sorry if I stepped on somebodys toes here.
Thank you and have a nice day. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

* from a gamer's point of view, I care more about the amount of memory in my system and video card - processor comes after those.
