I have tried without success to install an IDE hard drive to a motherboard with adaptec SCSI controller but have not been successful. During the W2K Server install, the system recognizes the IDE drive.
But on reboot to complete the install, an error message that the install wont continue due to configuration fault cancels the whole thing. All attempts to reset the BIOS failed. I set the boot option to "auto" for both "0" & "1" on the drives column in BIOS settings.
What am I doing wrong here? Please help me.
Thanks.
Oheshi.

Is the IDE going to be your boot drive? Are you using a SCSI drive? How do you have the motherboard(A,C,SCSI) and scsi bios' set? Is the SCSI controller onboard or an add-on card? Are your scsi devices properly terminated?

Normally, this is working fine and well.
However, Adaptec really doesn't have the best quality driver software for their SCSI adapters. Try updated ones. (You can feed the W2K install a driver disk by pressing F6 during the initial install. See manual.)

Try this..... Go onto your BIOS and set the Boot Sequence to boot from CDROM and then SCSI. Win2K CDROM's are bootable CD's so make sure to set the Boot Sequence as I explained above. Disconnect all IDE HDD's and have just the SCSI HDD connected on the system when installing Win2K. It is most likely that you will not need to press F6 to install the driver for the Adaptec SCSI card, it will automatically be detected by Windows. I use an Adaptec 29160N SCSI adapter and it is automatically detected during the beginning stage of the setup where it looks for mass storage device controllers.
The reason I disconnect the IDE drives is because Windows will always set the drive letter "C" to the IDE devices, SCSI is always set as the next drive letter. The HDD's connected on the IDE channels have more priority to the drive lettering than SCSI drives.

my main problem is that I use a dell pc with Phoenix BIOS that is antequated as I'm not getting a prompt for boot sequence. So after the 1st phase of W2K install, the system will try to boot to the W2K install and will shoot an error message there-after since the IDE drive is not bootable. Flashing the Phoenix BIOS is another hassle. I thank all of you that have replied to my posting anyway.
