Again, intel and their vapor ware. Anyone who buys from intel is either dumb, has lot's of money and think dell is the only who sells computers, or is still the guy that think Pentium is the only good processor out there. AMD should take advantage of this moment(what do I mean moment for?, intel has been slacking off for 7 months with shortages), and start doing a little more marketing, or even better yet, when intel final gets their crappy celerys on the market two months from now, AMD can have 900 mhz or 1ghz spitfires in stores or machines that are basically matched in price with intel's 600 or 700 celerys. Intel was good in the past, but they are dumb and it's too late for them, they're finished. Welcome to an AMD monopoly and they won't make the same mistake Intel did like over charging the hell out of their customers. What do you think?

And you expected Intel to ship these Celerons? They just released the 533 and 566 units ( Which for $130 will run between 800Mhz and 1Ghz...) Whats your beef with Intel?

I think the Cel 600 at 900Mhz or higher...much higher probably will be well worth a trip to the store. Who needs the 666Mhz cpu anyway? The slower ones OC better!

good point BBA but do you think intel will get alot of sales with it's celery cpu's from people who know how to overclock them? NO, we are a rare breed, intel sells most of it's celery chip to PC manuf. like dell and HP build system for those people who are cheap and don't know much about computers and think clock speed is the only thing on what makes a great computer. If you didn't know much about computer would you buy an $999 dollar 667 celeron system with the same specs as an AMD 800 spitfire that has the same hardware and the same price. You would be a moron if you bought the celery(don't forget I'm saying if you were the person that doesn't know much about o/c or computers in general). Most of sales today on new computers are by people that don't know about computers. They think higher clock speed is the way to go, and intel cannot keep up. So you can o/c all you want, my point is, if you have stock in intel, sell it now.

sorry to bog my own topic but I was just browsing around and saw that HP is selling Athlon systems now, I thought they were just P3's and that was it? When did they start selling Athlons, anyone know?

I think that marcvi is right that the people at Intel are a bunch of idiots, but I don't think they are going down anytime soon. I liked Intel until they started trying to outclock AMD with P3s and at the same time increase production on their celery CPUs. Result? Number of P3s are limited and manufacturers that depend on them like Dell lose money. That's why Gateway and Compaq later turned to Athlons to make desktops. This goes to show you that they care more about their competition rather than their customers. As for when HP starting to use K7s, I guess it was about a month and a half ago.

everyone has thier moments of idiocy.......AMD had thiers for years and they are still around,,,,,,,,,,now it may be intels turn for a bit.....but I do not hink it is the end of intel......nor do I think that they are suck.......I just ordered my celeron fcpga 533 for 115$.......I will be happy with it....I do think this though..........intel is great at marketing..........and I often wonder how real the chip shortage is..........I really think it is a marketing tactic....if you know much about supply and demand you may be inclined to agree

I admit AMD is ruling the market right now, but Intel is not dead, and I don't plan on giving up on them either. As for overclocking, I like the fact that I don't have to buy an overclocking device for Intel CPUs, because that's another ~$44. AMD makes good CPUs, and I wouldn't mind owning one, but I don't want to buy another motherboard unless I have to.
Hey, guess what? I know a secret! I know a secret! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Intel is doing some SHADY things right now to get at AMD. Intel will probably succeed, and AMD is likely to suffer. I guess you could call it "shrewd business practices," but I call it Intel the big bully pushing its weight around.

~~Edit: Hey Oblivion, where did you get your 533A??? I saw them at allstarshop for $116 a few days ago, but they just jacked the price up to $160!!! #$%^!!! I should have bought it then!

Szech.......I got it from the allstarshop...
I ordered it monday...........something told me to go ahead and get it while it was cheap........for some reason I suspected the deal was too good to be true........I got my 533 and abit slocket III with shipping for 143$.................at any rate the 533 is 140$ now...not 160$

Doesn't it mean that Intel shortages mean that they sell I high CPU as a lower one?Isn't that just great!I have an Intel PII-300 SL2W8 which is a 450.I love it.Buy more for less!

AMD taking over the marketing?I see Intel commercials all the time on SysOpt,but never AMD.For overclocking you'd buy Celery best.Pretty cheap and best for overclocking.

BTW are the new generation K6-2 still Super7?

The problem with AMD is the mobo's.There aren't enough different mobo's.I don't think there is a great slotA mobo, and they are expensive too.I read on SysOpt that even the slotA mobo from Asus sucks.

Biff, plain and simple, eh? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I'd tend to agree.

Oblivion, that's a new way of thinking about Intel's supply "problem". I never thought of that. Why would Intel have a boat load of problems and not AMD? You people say that they make celerys more than p3's. What about AMD? They make cheap processors (K6) and high end (Athlon). Why don't they have any problems? Intel is a HUGE company. I think they're waiting for the right moment to strike....although I could be wrong.

I am surprised that you are arguing abut processors'speed and performance when there is no application that will really get benefit from these top performers. I think the single processor architecture, (including the 808xx in all their flavors, is really obsolete. Even on games, theere will be a major improvement if the developers use the dual chip architecture instead of realying in separate processors for the video card in a single motherboard. To me, this is the real issue and not which one is bigger or better. Sounds like an Intel pentium envy?

I suspect that there is a higher demand for pIII's............and the only reason there was a shortage is because there was/is such a demand.....intel is still selling much more then AMD is right now...............(AMD has ran dry of athlons until june,so expect prices to go up).......

I am sure that intel's shortage is due to them preparing their fab plants for the willamette that will be released soon enough.......it is no easy task to get a fab ready for a whole new achitecture........and I am certain that they are focusing on preparing said fab for future willamtete production.
