Hello-

I have an Abit KA7, TY BIOS, W98SE.

If I select "Stand By" on the shutdown menu instead of powering down the HDD and such, the whole thing turns off. If I try to turn it back on after that it won't POST. The same thing happens if I press the power button when Windows has loaded. (In Power Config pressing the power button is supposed to go to "Stand By")

The only way I can get it to boot again is to unplug the computer, (and let the capacitors decharge I'm assuming) then it works fine. I've been having some problems with my computer and locking up in games too, could this be related? (Look in the TS Forum, it's a 50+ reply post!)

Bad PS, dying mobo, or Corrupt W98SE? (Note: Windows always runs very stable for me, with about 1 error a week, never any BSOD's, hard-lockups, etc.)

Shooting from the hip, but W98 is notoriously bad at handling Stand By, Suspend, etc., on SOME systems.

That could be, but this system was working perfectly before I started noticing those problems (the lockups). I reinstalled W98 too.

Your BIOS settings may have changed. Go into the BIOS settings, note what they are, then reload the default settings. Then change the settings back to what you had noted, and resave. May also need to experiment w/the power management settings there.
If that doesn't work -- Win98's ability to execute the ACPI stuff properly is tenuous. Even if it worked, any change due to updates, new programs, etc., could knock it off that edge concerning ACPI.
