Hello everybody

Recently I bought a Asus A7V motherboard and a Thunderbird 1 Ghz CPU. All seemed to work fine, but my computer freezes/locks up. It happens accidentally, in all sorts of applications (both 3D games, browser, explorer and so on...). My OS is Windows 2000 SP1, and I am using VIA 4-in-1 drivers, ver. 4.25. Also I'm using latest Promise drivers (1.60 build 25) and the latest BIOS on my A7V (1005a).

I've tried LOTS of things, but it's difficult to figure out why/when those lockups occur. Sometimes I can use my computer for hours, before it freezes.

My AGP setting is set to Normal (2x), I have tried to choose the most stable settings in the BIOS (RAM CAS/RAS set to 3, PCI Latency was set higher, and so on). And let me mention that my system is not overclocked.

Hardware configuration:
Asus A7V, AMD TB 1 GHz
PixelView GeForce2 MX 32 MB RAM/TV OUT graphics adapter (Detonator 6.49)
SoundBlaster Live! 1024 sound card
256 MB PC100 Kingston RAM

Does anyone have som suggestions on what might be the problem here? :-)

Thanks a lot!

Start by looking here:

Try setting the AGP4x driving strenght manually to DA (or what they suggest in the above forums).

Good luck.

Have you tried Underclocking to 900 and slightly lowering the voltage.
If that solves your problem then heat is thy enemy.

Have you tried using a different slot for the SBlive. PCI slot 4 seemed the best for me

If that solves your problem the it was IRQ issues

btw is the SBlive in PCI SLOT2, if so then that may be your problem as that slot shares an IRQ with the Promise controller

Could it be that the latest bios is the culprit???
Is "A" the beta or the final from the German site? Was it OK before flashing, or when did this all begin?? Ive heard it (new bios) can cause probs with some but not all setups...
