Sound on MSI Pro2 Mobo..................Urgent help!!!!

Have Duron700, 256 ram, Herc MX, Aureal Vortex 1 PCI soundcard.

Problem is - cannot get sound card to work. Is it a driver issue??? Done usual 4in1 VIA, installing, deintalling, reinstalling...the lot!!!

Decided to fresh install of Win98, to no avail. Removed card from system.

Managed to get onboard sound to work (FINALLY) because although enabled in bios, when installing, setup said to enable it (but it was!). Not happy with the sound quality though.

Can anyone provide suggestions, similar experiences? Does sound card have to be in specific PCI slot??

Do you have the K7T? If yes did you disable the onboard sound(there are two settings;onboard legacy audio and soundblaster) in the "Integrated Peripherals" menu in the bios? Did you install the Aureal drivers that came with the card? Are there any conflicts in device manager? My Sound Blaster Platinum is in the 5th PCI slot(had a Diamond MX400 working in the same slot before).
