Hello.
I urgently need help setting my Western Digital 20 gig 7200 rpm dma66 hard drive to use dma 66, and not dma 33!
I did not find much information in the manual. Do I need to install any specific software?
I have installed the HTP RCM DEVICE, and HTP366 Ultra DMA 66 Controller under "SCSI controllers" in device manager in Windows 98.
I even tried using the lifeguard diskette that came with the HD and tried to set my transfer rate to 66, and it showed that it was set, but the main problem is that the motherboard can't detect my hard drive in the bios when I use auto detect. Do I have to enter the value's manually?
Please help! ICQ me 39433427 or just reply here.
Thanks,
Starchild

Is this a newever version of the Lifeguard tools than the one that came with my HD? I bought my HD about a month and a half ago.

I am having problem flashing my bios. I downloaded the file awdflash.exe for the BE6-II (thats what I see on my motherboard's manual), and it gave me an error message after trying to flash "Source file not found!"
Whats happening?

This is how I do it with Win98. First take a clean floppy and copy and paste awdflash utility onto the floppy, now copy an paste the behuh utility to the floppy. Now click on the behuh utility and it should extract the beh uh.bin file onto the floppy. For windows 98 I use the startup disk to get to the dos A prompt, So put in the start up disk and reboot and get to the A prompt. Now put in your floppy with the new bios on it in, Now type in awdflash and that utility should pop up. Now type in beh uh.bin if that dos’nt work type beh_uh.bin Ok now the bios utility will do its thing, it will ask if you want to save old bios, I always say no. When its done reboot and you should be good to go.

Or mabey type it like this BEH_UH.BIN
assuming you down loaded the latest UH bios

Bummer, it would tell you under the last ISA slot but you would have to take out the mobo to read it

If you do have the BE6-2 the correct bios flash for it is the BEHUH.EXE

Yea, I tried that flash and it wouldn't work.
I think I have hte BE6-II Rev. 1.10....at least thats what I see on the first page of the manual at the buttom right.

Since there are two different key versions (One is the version 1.0x series,the other one is the version 1.2 and newer series), it's very important to know how to recognize which mainboard version you have before upgrading your board's BIOS.How can you tell? There are three ways:
The first way:
You can find the version number on a white sticker on the side of the last ISA slot, with a string of characters like ""BE6 II-OK V1.0X"".
The second way:
You can read the last two letters on the bottom right of the first
boot-up screen (with the "Energy Star" logo) to recognize what the BIOS ID number you have. Comparing this ID to the list below will tell you which version
you have.
The third way:
You may check to see whether or not your BE6 II has the HPT 370 chip on board

My board does not have a HPT 370 controller, but a HTP 366. That's what I found out in the manual being said.

Maybe you should try the BEHNZ.EXE first.

This would update it to Rev1.2 and then maby the latest bios would work on it.

This is what I use so it does everything automatically.
awdflash beh_uh.bin /py /sn /cc /cd
use whatever your bios vs is in place of the beh_uh
What this does is updates bios, clears cmos, and clears pnp without asking to save old bios.

I tried what you guys recommended, and still the bios wouldn't upgrade. It kept telling me that I have the wrong file.
Pretty much stuck right now...

I tried it, and still its not being detected as DMA 66 HD from my motherboard. I went into the dma management and set it as 66, and it's still not running any faster or different. My motherboard doesn't even detect it correctly.
Do I need to install the Ez-Program from the diskette? I need help!

I think you need to Flash the Bios to the latest version for your motherboard. The more I read up on it. The bios updates have a few fixs that might help the detection problem.

You would have mail, but no email address.
So, download each of the newest bios updates
beh_uh.exe extract to beh_uh.bin
bep_uj.exe extract to bep_uj.bin
ber_uk.exe extract to ber_uk.bin
Make bootable floppy for each. Have awdflash on each floppy. Then try the update with each of the bios updates.

There you go, start at the bottom. Try the orignal release and work your way up.

If you need to e-mail me, its xetenor@tweak3d.net or xetenor@homemail.com.
This is what happened:
BER_UK=WORKED
BEP_UJ=DIDN'T WORK
BEH_UH=DIDN'T WORK
I went through the order you guys recommened, and I still have trouble getting my hard drive to be recognized by the BIOS and use DMA66. Something strainge thta I found out was that during the bios bootup, I see a screen showing something like:
Highpoint 370 UDMA/RAID Controller Bios v1.0...and it also shows to hold CTRL+H to enter the setup of the controller, but I still don't know how to get my western digital hard drive to work at dma 66.

All right so you must have a BE6-II 2.0 with 370 chipset. When you boot up and get to Highpoint Bios section hold down the Ctrl and H keys to go into that Bios. Now go to Mode option and pick 4. Mode 4 will set as 66ata in this Bios. Make sure your useing a Ultra66 cable, and have the Drive hooked up to the orange primary IDE connector.
