I have a pcchips m571 motherboard ver 3.2a
I accidently erased my bios opn the chip.
I flashed the file onto the chip with a different board it said flash successful but it still wouldn't boot. Ive been told that the bios file at pcchips doesn't work.
does anyone have that board that could save thier bios to a file and send it to me?
I don't know what else to do the board is practically brand new I hate to throw it away. thanks for your help.

The BIOS file from www.pcchips.com.tw (http://www.pcchips.com.tw) does work - unless your download software screwed it up. Should be 131072 bytes long.

Mine's M571 ver7.0, so that doesn't help. However, I did have success hot-flashing my BIOS chip on another mobo w/this Award flasher, Awfb52b.exe (flashed an AMI BIOS fine):
http://www.novacomputersinc.com/drivers/ampdrivers/bios.html

The flasher prog is bundled with the BIOS updates -- just d/l one of them & unzip it to get the flash program. Seems like the M571 boards are having trouble w/flash updates, tho I had flashed mine several times in the past w/o any problems. Perhaps the latest flash programs are the problem?

go here: http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142/pcchips/

Follow the links on this page and you will get to a working BIOS. I have that same board and it has working for a few years with several BIOS upgrades along the way.

Good Luck

It was an Award mobo. The Award flasher's text file said the Awfb52b.exe could flash AMI BIOSs, and it did. In my experience, the AMI BIOSs have a .rom file extension.

You could always go here http://www.badflash.com

and get a new chip pre-programmed.

true but I am not convinced that is exactly what's wrong I am thinking that it might be something else on this system making it act that way and what I was doing just happened to be at the same time because it never said it was writing to the chip when it failed and I did get a windows protection error right before it shut down. is there any way to check and see if it is the bios only? or the mobo? other than having another one just like it? I hate to throw away 25 dollars getting a chip and then it still doesn't work.

You're not putting the BIOS chip in upside-down are you? There are tiny notches in one edge of chip & socket that line up -- very hard to see, tho. I'm out of suggestions -- might try these MBs:

The ami bios flashing program readme (included in the version you get from www.pcchips.nl (http://www.pcchips.nl) but not from www.pcchips.com (http://www.pcchips.com) )

Please take note of the fact that we only advise you to upgrade your BIOS if you experience
otherwise unsolvable problems with your board.

1. You should make a note of your BIOS settings on paper.
2. Copy the new BIOS file and the Flash Utility to a bootable floppy. Refer to your OS
manual how to make a bootable disk.
3. Boot the computer from the floppy.
4. At the prompt, type 'AMINF322' (without the inverted commas) followed by the full name of the new BIOS file.
For example you will have the screen looking like this: A:\>AMINF322 990101s.bin
5. Press <ENTER>.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions and choose to EXIT when prompted to do so.
The AMIFLASH Utility matches the new BIOS file to the current one and tells you if it is
suited for the mainboard.
7. After the program has finished and you are back at the prompt, just switch off the
computer and remove the power.
8. It is wise to clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS. To do this you'll have to open
the case.
9. Clear the CMOS, by moving the jumper on the board into the CLEAR CMOS position.
(Check your manual to determine the exact location of the jumper. It is usually located
close to the CMOS chip and battery).
Wait for about 5 seconds, then place the jumper in it's original position and plug the
power in again.
9. Reboot the machine and reconfigure the BIOS correctly using the noted settings.

If your PC doesn't boot anymore after flashing the BIOS, there might still be a way to flash
another BIOS file. Copy the BIOS file onto a bootable DOS boot disk (you'll ofcourse need
a second computer to do this) and rename the file to AMIBOOT.ROM. Next, boot with this disk
and during boot press Control-Home. This should activate the first 4K boot routine in the
BIOS (which is never overwritten by flashing) and flash the renamed BIOS file.
After your BIOS has been flashed proceed from step 7.

Good luck!

We are also assuming the mobo has the correct Version number on it, mine doesn't. According to the web site, mine s/b either V141. or V141.1, all I can find on mine is V1.4 and last night I looked for about an hour. I looked at everything, I even found the Gettysburg Address on a solder point! But no other reference to version.
