I just got an SA6R 815e board from Abit.
No trouble withsetup exec. (excellant stability!) but when I get into win98se explorer I have no 2nd hard drive. The bios see's it, it shows up in the device manager but does not show up in explorer. I do not have it setup as a raid rig but am running both hd's on seperate channels as masters and the cd's are on 1 channel as a master/slave.

Is the other HD brand new? If so you need to Fdisk it and create partitions and then format it so Windows can see it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

no, the 2nd drive (wd) has been fdisk prev and used....it stores all my backup data.
it is not recognized in dos either. I am somewhat stumped here.

If it shows up in Device Manager, try clicking the "Removable" button on the Properties sheet & rebooting. If it works then, you have other, fixable issues. If it doesn't, go back & uncheck the "removable" button.

Remember, WD drives have (at least had) different jumper settings for Master & single. You understand this?

There's something about WD drives not showing up. I had one that WD's own Data Lifeguard program couldn't find. Mine's being replaced with a later version so maybe the firmware had a glitch.
I've asked WD about this, will let you know if I get a response from them.

I tried to remove the drive and reboot prior to posting the original message, no good.
I also tried it as a slave (same setup as another motherboard) on the same channel and as a master on a seperate channel, no good.
I have also tried it all by itself and I get a primary disk failure error when booting. Maybe this thing just went bad when I switched boards? No, I did not drop it or place it next to my sub-woofer (did the sub-woofer thing 2 years ago and learned from it!) or "shock" it in any way.
