How it did this is beyond me! After I upgraded my bios I made double sure everything was right in the bios setup and then I let it boot for the first time. Everything looked great, no problems at all. So went on line and it dialed OK but, it didn't connect OK. It connected at 28.8 not v90. I upgraded the drivers, moved the PCI modem to another slot and nothing worked. So I finally decided it had to be the new bios and went back to the old bios and guess what...the modem works again! Very very strange indeed. Anyone have any ideas why it did this? The old bios is fine so I'm not so sure I'll return to the new bios unless there is a great need to do so.

Did you see if there was a firmware update for your modem? May be a compatability issue with the new BIOS. If there isnt, try a different modem or make do with your old BIOS if it isnt updating a specific problem.
