Calling all techno-geniuses!!

I recently built a comp using a 333 Slot 1 Celeron, Matsonic 7016s Mobo, ATI Rage Pro (8mb), 20x CD, etc..
I installed a 128mb pc100 simm and was treated to numerous crashes and errors when installing windows. Mostly VXD, VMD and bad memory errors. I had to put in an older 32meg simm to finish install.I am assuming the mobo is 66mhz bus. Won't the pc100 run at 66 also? The older 32meg simm runs fine. The bios sees the ram ok at 128mb.
Anyone have any ideas? What about the ram timings in bios? I am unfamiliar with all the clock settings and such.
I would sure like to run the 128meg chip.

Does that board use an Intel chipset?

If so, then you might well have hit the ceiling as far as SDRAM technology is concerned. Today's 128 MByte DIMMs might contain SDRAM parts that can't be handled by Intel's LX/EX/ZX/BX chipsets. Or you have SDRAM technology there that can be handled by the hardware, yet still run an old BIOS in there that does not know how to set the chipset for that newer technology. If you can't cure the symptom by using the latest BIOS, it might be the former problem.

However, since the Matsonic mainboards mostly are PC-Chips, you might well be bitten by the pitfall that, on some of their mainboard models, you need to push ridiculously hard to seat a DIMM properly.

NVRAM, btw, is nothing to do with main RAM. That's non-volatile configuration storage that is actually located in the BIOS FlashROM device.

Thanks for the info Peter. I will have to try it. It is very hard to get the simm's to seat. I may have to settle for another older 32meg simm and just use 64 or 96 megs.
I was wondering about the cas timings in the bios. Could those have be a problem? It does not have an auto setup for simm's, just dimm's.
