Assuming that you did not disconnet the drive during the battery replacement (if you did, make sure you got the IDE connector in right - pin one is usually toward the power connector). Sounds like you cleared your normal BIOS settings when replacing the battery. Make sure that your hard drive is still listed in the boot sequence. Try booting from a floppy if your A drive is your first boot device. Most BIOS setup screens have an option (in mine it's IDE HDD Auto Detection) which will look at the devices on your IDE channels and try to determine their characteristics rather than waiting for the boot process. Try this out and see what you come up with.

Lets start from the beginning...

Why did you change your battery..i.e. what led you to think it was bad?
Were you trying to solve a problem?

I guess you are in your BIOS ok, so re-boot with the defaults. If that dosen't work should try a new battery and be sure you have the correct one (you probably do). Check to see that the battery contacts are clean so your bios is getting power when you shut down.

Next, start checking connections and try a different power plug on the HDD & floppy, or test the power supply with a volt meter. Check to see that your memory hasn't come unseated.

Good luck...
