I'm a first time PC builder, building my own box. my tentative plan is use an abit KA7-100 mobo with AMD T'bird 800 (to be overclocked 'soon afterward')

questions are:
for this setup, I'd need an adapter to use this 'slot A' processor in that 'socket A' mobo, right? is the thing called a 'slotket' or what exact search term should I use to find the right adapter?

and, more importantly:
when I install the CPU, etc, I assume I'd need the cooling fan/orb/whatever specified for use with the -processor-, and not 'for use with that mobo', right? is there any problems to look out for, like 'capacitors in the way', or 'holes won't line up right' or anything like that?

do guys using (slot to socket?) 'adapters' of this sort need to fabricate their own 'brackets' to hold down the adapter/cpu/h sink/fan assembly, because they're 'non-standard'?

also, is there anything like a "socket A thunderbird" I can use in that mobo without an adapter? if so, how/where to find it? do they cost like 'exceedingly more'? or are they -exceedingly- hard to find?

any other potential problems I'm overlooking here?

thanks for being gentle with me :-). I appreciate your help,

dave

Here is a test of the KA7 with a 750, if you look at the picture you will see its a slotted board not socket A, you can get T-Birds in slot or socket A (up to a point) make sure you get the correct one for the board, Global/Win or Alpha makes great heatsinks for either... test: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/abit_ka7.htm heatsinks: http://www.memman.com
and all the chips are available to you here: http://www.pricewatch.com

Tbird is not gonna work with KA7, get a K7V from Asus.
