Wow!

This is the first time I have ever found a virus on my system, and Mr. Norton done saved my sorry you-know-what.

I was installing what I thought was ICQ 2000 beta, which I downloaded from a ftp site. Then the alarm goes off, it found this:

ICQ.Revenge.Trojan
Detected as:
ICQ.Revenge.Trojan

Area of Infection:
.EXE Files

Characteristics:
This file creates a copy of itself named SYSTEM32.EXE, places it in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, and modifies the registry to launch it file upon startup.

So I nuked it, and the whole file it came in.

I used to think I would never get a virus, wrong. Thank you Mr. Norton.

icq 2000a sucks anyway. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've been running norton av for about 2 years...so far it's been a complete waste of money, but I guess it only takes one time.

Good for you and may the perps get their share of hardware failure!

To date, NAV has stopped 35 infected E-Mail attachments from entering the wan I support.
@ about 20$ per user, it would cost us more in rebulding a crashed pc per incident. One of these E-mails was addressed to 65 people at my site.
(ps Use the quarantine if unrepairable option)

i get trojans sent to me all the time because of my low icq number, as wel as viruses and over all between norton, TDS and the cleaner, most get caught

NAV is good, but McAffee is better.

At work we check the Network Associates and Symantec sites for updates every day - For example, NA might show a new virus on monday morning, but Symantec won't have the same one up till tuesday afternoon! Plus, the McAffee SW isn't bloated like NAV.
