Hello I've got a new Epox MVP3G2 MB, when I boot I get a message "floppy disk(s) fail (40)" I have PNP disabled in bios.
Am I to assume the FDD on board controller is fried?
Have you disconnected the FDD cable for any reason before this problem occured?

No this is a new system I'm building, I connected all cables before boot up.
Turn the floppy cable around , (I don't mean change the two ends from mainboard to FDD) I think you have the floppy disk cable pins on wrong. that is a very COMMON mistake. Unlike HDD cables, FDD cable fit both ways which make PIN alignment a little difficult at times.

Inspect pins on both the Floppy and the M/B to make sure you didn't bend any pins, or aren't missing any... And as was said before, make sure pin alignment is correct...
GOOD-LUCK
Hmmm, that is very strange. I've yet to seen defective FDD cables. But we musn't put that aside. Hope you get your NEW system running. I know the feeling when you build a new system and something doen't work. It SUCKS!
Good Luck! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I tried switching around the cables like you suggested with no results.
I think I'll go out a buy a new cable just to verify its not that.

Well looks like my MB is defective. I was able to get a friend to test my FDD and it was working perfectly.
Will send back for a replacement.
Thanks to all who replied.
