How can I identify the motherboard in my Emachines 500is computer? It does not show a BIOS string at the bottom of the boot-up screen. It doesn't identify the model of the hard disk either.

Thats one of them special Tri-Gem models most likely, try d/ling SisoftSandra for more system info...(I think its in your E docs if ya have em there is a "build sheet") Or open it up and look, its all marked...(breaking that little sparkily seal you see there voids your warranty !BEWARE!) use Sandra...adding mem and swapping modems is a common E "fix"...

No I don't think you can clock them. Best to use them as they are for what they are.Had one as a second pc,it had that tri-gem board and a celly433.I put the celly in my machine and could overclock it to almost 600,but even with soft FSB(the only option in the emachine to oc),the celly would crash.Too much hastle even for a 2nd pc,not much you cam do with them and not worth putting the money into for what you end up with IMHO.
Use sisoft sandra for HDD info, the one I had had a seagate HDD.
