I've put my self together a new system fairly cheep but i just realized i've run out of ISA slots once i include my network card http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
I have a Modem, an awe64 and a network card all isa but i only have two isa ports.
So which would be the cheepest to replace with out cutting quality?
Well, it depends... how much money o you want to spend ?
In the UK, you can have the SBLive Value (PCI) for 49.99 pounds, the Intel EtherExpress PRO 100+ PCI for 44.99 pounds.
You could also invest in an EXTERNAL modem (3com -USR Sportster 55.6 for 65 quid...)
Ask you this question first: what would you like to change on your PC ?

If that were my system, I would keep the AWE (good sound) and the modem (PCI are winmodems), and replace the NIC.
Probably one of the cheapest to replace, too.
A Netgear at www.mwave.com (http://www.mwave.com) is $22.90 and then a $5 rebate 'til 6/30/99

No easy answer here. But I would change the NIC to PCI.

ditto (what Susan and Nathan suggested)
Definately the network card. Have gotten good 10/100 PCI NIC's for $10, you can't touch a sound card that compares to the AWE for that!

Thanks I'll replace the network card that way i'll get a Plug and Play one http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
And next time i'll count the slots first.
