I just joined x drive, you get 50MB free Internet storage, and a small, fancy client that integrates with windows explorer. It literally adds a "X" drive to your system, with drag and drop capabilities.

I don't need any extra HD space, but I thought it would be good for sharing files that I may need or want to give someone when away from my home system.

You can add to your storage space by getting friends to sign up (5MB per friend).

No, I am not advertising for them, nor do I want anyone here to join on my account.

Just thought it was a neat thing to share, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

sounds interesting. I have tried a different virtual drive company, freedrive, and it doesn't have the drag and drop. it is a little cumbersome to use. I think I will go check it out...

Yeah I tried it...and cancelled it. It would great if you got a high speed connection and you really needed that extra 50mb of space. What turned me off about it, is your can't link to anything you store there. IOW, I can't put a file there to share with everyone here, and then just put a link in a message. Instead you have jump through hoops to access the files if you're anywhere but the original users pc. Just a hassle, I thought.

OP, is typing your username and password the "jumping through hoops" that you refer to?

if you just want the storage, try FreeDiskSpace.com (http://www.freediskspace.com/). They give you 300 MB.

it doesn't have that "drive" capability, but it does have a thing where you can "clip" things off the web to the site. i like it.

and you can create folders with share passwords to share files with family and friends (without letting them know that you have a whole gallery of Jennifer Anniston sitting there).

uh, no. Unless they've changed how they do things. When I tried them out (a few months back) the way you shared a file with someone was pretty convoluted.

You had to tell X drive you wanted to "share this file", then tell it the other users email, then it would send this big'ol ugly long link to that user. Ya know, something like this:
http://www.xdrive.com/eyujGd5$2367TRGadsSre Yth^...x10 (http://www.xdrive.com/eyujGd5$2367TRGadsSreYth^$6uJyrsE.@467852444444afg ASetr$#T$DdWddt#tdhTrfdtHYjuyjs.af$AyhDFHFDAadgda3 DgftrGFds)

Then the other guy would have to follow that link, ...and couple more BS screens, then he could download the file. Just nonsense.

[edited down that long fake link, was making the forum too wide...]

I have tried several of these things, and in the process made a nice table comparing their pros and cons, if you want to look at it go to http://members.home.com/plasbot/Freespace.htm
Hope it helps. I-drive has an app that will sync a folder with your drive, might be useful for sharing your incoming mp3s folder or something.

Cujo, thanks for the info, I have joined freediskspace. They do have a "drag and drop" program you can download in beta.

the "drag and drop" program for x-drive and netdrive are both suckssss...
they crash my windows (or probably bill gates sucks, win98se by the way)

usually i store assignment, icq NewDB or any file i will need,
i will have access to it wherever i go.. especially i don't have to bring a disk to school to print out assignment or when i do assignment in school.. cool ..

outpatient-

if you were talking about freediskspace, then here is my response:

to grant users access, all you have to do is click on a button and type in the "share password". then, you can elect to send an e-mail to someone, which contains only the bare essentials.

and the link format is usually something like this: http://www.freediskspace.com/1234567890/folder#123 . that is pretty simple if you ask me, considering all of the rooting that has to occur to keep it secure and all.

i hope i could help to better inform those out there of their options!

I'll have to check out X-Drive.
I now use www.Freediskspace.com (http://www.Freediskspace.com) , www.freedrive.com (http://www.freedrive.com) , www.idrive.com (http://www.idrive.com) , and two others that I can't remember the name of but are only 10Mb each. I also use a free web space host that allows unlimited webspace.

Hey, hey, hey. jad1097. Just who is this web space host that allows unlimited storage?

Don't tease.

Let me rephrase that. It is a free web host for one of my sites. I am not supposed to use it for storage but I do anyway. But I just threw a page up linking to the files. I would guess if they found what I was doing I would no longer have a site on their server, hence the reason for no link.
