Then there's the operating system - I'm not sure, but I think that microsoft products are very limited in processor count I've not heard of it handling more than 8 but I could be wrong ( isn't something I need to look up - lack of $$$ ;-)) - you'd actually have to go with UNIX or AIX for the big stuff I mentioned up above - OOPS - sorry - Sun doesn't do "UNIX" - they have the Solaris OS ( UNIX renamed by sun marketing dept - what a crock!) thekingofpain 07-28-2000, 05:45 PM Thats a level of computing I cant compute! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Ultima 07-28-2000, 05:49 PM Hey Axel, If ya read Sysopt's review on windows ME, you'll see that windows 2000 supports, I believe, up to 32 cpu's. I'm not sure though, but it is somewhere around that number. Pim MadMatt 07-28-2000, 10:19 PM Win 2k Datacenter will support up to 32 processors and 64GB of memory: http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/datacenter/default.asp Can't just go down to CompUSA and pick up a shrink-wrapped copy though - Advanced Server costs $4k and Datacenter is likely going to cost *ALOT* more than that! mong_2 07-29-2000, 12:20 AM nice Stan 07-29-2000, 03:24 AM It is the Supermicro S2QF6. Full mobo spec found here (http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/MotherBoards/RCC_HE/S2QE6.htm) Stan neo_otyugh 07-30-2000, 08:47 AM speaking of multi cpu systems....i also play on a nother game server..a proliant 8500 with 8 p3 xeon 2mb cache chips and 4 gigs of ram...it runs from his aparmtent...talk about power at home... skywalker[TSG] 07-31-2000, 05:24 PM DOES HE RUN RC5 !!!!! he has to otherwise its a waste of 100k+$$$ Stan 08-08-2000, 12:29 AM Inferior After the 6 PCI slots, there is a black slot that looks like an AGP slot. That's a memory riser card. On the memory riser card, you have several DIMMS slots (one of our dell PE6300 has 16 dimms slots). You then plug the dimms on the riser and plug the riser on the mobo ! simple ! Stan [This message has been edited by Stan (edited 08-08-2000).] Inferior 08-08-2000, 12:54 AM Yeah, 8 PIII Xeon's definetely would be nice... You just might be happy with the possible FPS.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Inferior 08-08-2000, 12:55 AM WTF? Where do you put the ram on that motherboard? neo_otyugh 08-09-2000, 09:32 AM none of the guys that have those servers run rc5 afaik, i think they all do webhosting at home or run businesses. they are all in their early 20's..and if they can afford tta kind of computing power they got to be doing somehting right SysOpt.com
