Please help me. I am upgrading my cpu to a 500mHz P3 from a 350 mHz P2. The motherboard Is a V66M ACER board in an IBM computer.I have the processor but can not get a manual for the board so i can set the jumpers for the new processor. I have been to IBM and ACER sites and found everything but a manual. I have a diagram of the board but no instructions on how and wich jumpers to reset. Im new to this, the more information the better. Thanks, fshanda

I have found this information and hoped a manual would help answer some questions.I want to know if i upgrade from a P2 350 mHz to a P3 500 mHz cpu do i have to reset my jumpers or switches. I also am concerned with the bios. Should i update it after or before the upgrade. the multiplier would change from 3.5 to 5.0 and the cache would change from 175 mHz to 250 mHz. The core voltage is 2.0 for both. Im new to these procedures and could use some help.

Sorry I mis-understood your question.

Yes you will need to change the "SW4" that is located in the "sw1" goup of jumpers (multiplier)

I personally like to run the most current OFFICIAL bios for my motherboard. (I would flash the bios prior to making any changes to your current setup

Yes the voltage is the same for both chips (assuming both are .25 micron die types). The cache will automatically adjust (nothing for you to do)

Looking at the V66M data sheet it seems as though i only have to reset the cpu switch settings. The only question is are the mHz listed for P2 cpu's or P3. If so how should i set the switches?

Can i load the bios upgrade while the old processor is still in the system. I have only preformed a bios upgrade one time before. And if I understand you correctly switch sw4 to the off position?

Thank you very much for your help. The cpu is in place and running. I have one last question though. In system properties/device manager in the system devices tab it is showing: intel 82443bx pentium(r)11 processor to AGP controler and: intel 82443bx pentium(r)11 processor to PCI bridge ( with GART support). Is this something that I should worry about and if I need to update this where can the updates be found. Once again, thanks for the help.

You should be fine leaving those alone http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes you can do the bios flash with the 350 cpu in place http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes SW4 needs to be in the OFF position as the others switches are the same as the 350 http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

CPU Speed SW1 SW2 SW3 SW4
500 On Off Off Off
350 On Off Off On
