KillerBug 04-16-2000, 10:12 AM There has got to be a DOS emmulator for windows 2000, right? jad1097 04-16-2000, 01:27 PM Yep a DOS window pops up. Mntsnow 04-16-2000, 05:01 PM it's also located Start->programs->accessories->command prompt. but I do it the easy way and just hit the "run" line and type "cmd" too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow AuraEdge 04-16-2000, 06:29 PM Its not DOS as we all know it...Since theres no 16bitness in Win2k That 'command prompt' allows for long file names and other stuff that arent in normal DOS KillerBug 04-16-2000, 10:25 PM Ok, how about I become more extreme with this...how about something that will let me emmulate dos and run dos programs more complex than pkunzip, I want to run duke nukem 3d, the seventh guest, doom, etc...!!! I would also like to run windows 98 software in windows 2000, there has got to be a patch that makes windows 98 software work around the HAL, right? OuTpaTienT 04-17-2000, 12:27 AM What? No DOS? Not even a DOS window? It's gotta be in there somewhere...I know WinNT does DOS...er...simulated DOS. happyhamster 04-17-2000, 12:43 AM Start - Run - type "cmd" - see if you get something. Unsecured Loner 04-17-2000, 06:34 AM Doubt it would work. You'd be defeating the reason that Win2k is more stable: minimal backward compatibility. I'd advise running a dual boot with win9x to run your older stuff. KillerBug 04-17-2000, 08:33 AM I am doing that now, I would rather not be waisting the hard disk space, and I would like to run the software without restarting the computer. happyhamster 04-17-2000, 09:09 AM You may also want to try command.com : Start - Run - type "command.com". Supposedly, it's somewhat different from cmd, and contains real DOS emulator. M$ promises it will run "most" DOS apps. Try that and tell us what happens. Regarding Win95/98, only some apps, those that use pure win32 api, will work. If an app isn't working, all you can do is wait for the author to release win2k version. There's no patch, no workarounds. That's why M$ aims win2k for businesses, and recommends gamers to get win millenium. KillerBug 04-17-2000, 11:16 AM Windows mellinium? I would rather use mac os 9!
