I went to Abit's site and this is what it said to check for:

Since there are two different key versions (One is the version 1.0x series,
the other one is the version 1.1 and newer series) it's very important to
know how to recognize which mainboard version you have before upgrading
your board's BIOS. How can you tell? There are two ways.

The first way: You may find the version number on the white sticker of last ISA slot side and see a string of characters like "BH6-OK V1.XX".
The second way: You may read the last two words on the bottom right of the first boot-up screen (Energy Star Logo) to recognize what the BIOS id. number you have, then you will know which one you have to download and upgrade for your board.

Bad thing is there is no white sticker by either ISA slot, and even after rebooting a bunch of times I can't see what bios id. # they are talking about - there's nothing that looks like "BH6-OK V1.XX" anyway.

Need to know before I can get a new cpu...

Thanks

FrayDenZ, when you boot and the first screen comes up, hit the pause button at the top of your keyboard. Write down the numbers for reference sake. Then hit any key and it will continue booting. The last couple of carachters should be your current BIOS revision. Look for those if it doesn't give you a board revision, as each version of a board will have a different series of revision digits. Ie. version 1.0 might have AB, AC, AD, version 1.1 will have a different series of digits such as GB, GC, ect. On Abit boards, if you try to load the wrong BIOS, generally, no guarantee here, they will tell you it's incompatible. As I said, they list the revisions on their website, just look for the one you already have and get the most current one and you should be OK. Good luck! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Cool, thanks - I wrote down what it said, didn't see anything that matches tho - this is what it says on my boot up screen: i440BX-W83977-2A69KA1EC-LN

The only thing that came close was for the bh6 vs 1.0: BH6LN.exe released back on 7/26/99...not exactly up to date. Did I miss something?

You got it Man, LN is your current BIOS, just go forward from there to the latest version. You will also need to download whatever version of AWDFLASH it says you need. You should find some improvement over what you have when you finish. Be sure to follow the directions in their entirety and don't even start if it happens to be storming outside. The flash doesn't take but about 15-20 seconds, but it CANNOT be interupted. Not trying to scare you, because it's actually pretty easy to accomplish, but it does need to be done right or you can wind up with a worthless paperweight of a motherboard. Good luck and if you should run across anything that doesn't seem right, post back and someone will help, I'm sure.

Aahhh, I see - thanks again. Ok, now I know where I am - got lost there a sec, heh. I've come to the sad conclusion, tho, that I my bh6 is vs 1.0 - it looks to me that the highest cpu I could run would be a p3 600 or a celeron 700. You know the price difference on pricewatch for a p3 700 and a cel 700 is $3?

I don't suppose there is any way around this little problem, other than buying a new motherboard? I had so much wanted a p3 700, or maybe even a 750 http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif ...I just can't bring myself to spend $200 on a celeron when I could get a p3 for the same price.
