I am looking to upgrade my mobo now, and I am stuck between the Abit BE6 II and the Abit VT6X4. I have got a PIII 500 (Katmai), 128mb PC100 ram, Viper V770 32mb ultra. This is the first step in my bid to upgrade my computer. I thought I would go for the mobo first that way I would be able to play with the chip I have got before getting new ram and a new chip.

So I would like to know which board people think would be the best, keeping in mind the future upgrade.

I have already ordered an alpha cooler to take care of the heat problem.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would check out the Abit boards. You'll see lots of references to the BE-6 here. I use an Abit VA6 and am very pleased running my P3 600E on it. Love the softmenu Award Bios also.

Good luck.

Check out this board -

GA-BX2000+
http://www.giga-byte.com

I'm really happy with it and it can handle up to an 800 processor - I'm running a 550 right now.

I bought mine from http://www.axiontech.com for $138 - might be a little cheaper now that it's been out for a while.
