internet connection sharing

What I want to know is is it possible to share a single internet connection between a Win9x or Win2000, and a Linux machine? I have a cable connection and I'm very comfortable with setting up the hardware, but I don't know if you can do this with 2 different OS's.

Couldn't you just use a router, it assuming the identity of the "original" computer, and then both of your machines would access the 'net visa vie the router by their own means?
