First off i want to goto agp4x making the big jump from PCI vid other than that I am open to suggestions.
Basicaly I am looking for.
4x AGP
4or5 PCI
USB onboard "would be nice"
133 FSB availible "not that I expect to use it"
ATA66 or faster?

What I am looking to do is build a system specificly for MS flightsim 2K pro edition. If socket7 is not the way to go feel free to suggest ... I do not want to go above 500$ for the MB and CPU.

I am currently running AMD500 @ 525 via 105fsb/5x on a Tekram p5m4-m+ ata/33 HD.I loose my USB at any higher.

Basicaly the program is a beast not counting add-ons it is a 1.5gig full install and frame rates are LOW so I figure agp4x would be best for it. Plus the fact that my current board has onboard sound and vid that is nothing but a pain and no agp port.

As far as I know there aren't any Socket 7 mobos that support AGP 4X.

I'm in the market for buying a new computer. I currently have an AMD K6-2 400@450 with a Diamond V550 TNT PCI card. I've been playing the waiting game in buying a new computer, waiting for the Durons and Thunderbirds (now I'm waiting for the Socket A mobos). Right now you can get a respectable Slot A mobo for betweetn $110-$160 and a 700mhz processor for around $200-$250.

With that you would have a pretty kickass system for under $500. It would be a lot faster than a K6-2 system.

I'm waiting since AMD is going to the Socket A. That way I can get in the door with a slower Thunderbird or Duron which has the integrated L2 cache. Allowing me to have a pretty good upgrade path.

Thanks for the reply .. I did search though all the big name MB's and nothing 4x APG. Looks like this whole system is heading for retirement. I might salvage the zipdrive. Hopefully I can find it a good home for it "out in the country somewhere" LOL

i believe the abit ka-7 has agp 4x since it is recent release of MB....get thee a lower end athlon (below 750 mhz) and abit board and you should be off to the races with it....

Keeping in mind that it's nice to have any new capability available on the motherboard...
Last I heard there are no agp4x cards available outside of the labs. So how would you know if it actually works at that speed?

Just wondering if a later bios upgrade might give present mobo's that capability? If so, this could widen your search.

Well after some soul and pocket searching. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif I think I am going to concentrate on having fun tinkering with this system for a little while longer. After much panting and drooling over my next buildups parts. It's going to cost me plenty. Like alot of folks I am going into the waiting game. So much is around the corner ata100 drives voodoo6k cards slot a's and so on. My time and money would be best spent waiting and watching. Heck I can't afford to make big mistakes. I will sit back and let others do it for me. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif For now just to keep me busy and happy I'm going to try watercooling my cpu. I'm sure that knowledge and parts will stay usefull for a while. ````Mykal

And to all you folks who can afford the big mistakes keep posting! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Give us stiffs a chance to buy all the right stuff the first time out.

This is mykal .. dought passwords .. but I just wanted to get the best I could. So I thought covering AGP4 was the way togo. I have decided to go for a full overhaul, It will take a few months though. The best motherboard from reading up is the Abit Ka7 100 for the new box. Anyone have any likes or dislikes please post. BTW I am getting pc/133 reg. dimms first figure I would start there http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif. Mykex/mykal
