Mntsnow,
The only chipset currently around that has limitations on mixing memory SIZES is the i810. With that one, you must have the larger DIMM in the first slot and the smaller one in the second.
All other chipsets have no limitations here. Of course, there may be timing or drive strength issues involved - but that is entirely up to the engineering quality of the mainboard and BIOS.
johnbeast,
first of all see if that 32 MB DIMM you have there is fast enough for your system. Maybe you're running CAS Latency 2 clk while one of the DIMMs is actually CAS-3.

Peter,
Thanks for clairifing my post for me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I am aware that you can run Mis-Matched SIZED memory moduals...What I failed to convey was that Some BRANDS dont mix well with others or with some brands of motherboards.
Thanks for all you do in the forums!

Heres what I do if I am in this situation.
Run scandisk, fix all errors on all your harddrive.
Go to Internet option and Delete
temporary files
LOOK in your bios setup in advanced chipset
See the CAS/RAS timing 2/3?
Set to 3
Set Dimm timing to Fast
and not turbo
Take computer apart look inside
with a flashlight and see it it is firmly
inserted, if not do so. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Apply pressure on edge of dimm not on center
going from left to right or which ever you prefer until it is all the way in.
Do not wiggle them back and forth it is not required.

hi, i have a 7vca Soyo motherboard socket 370 with a PIII 550e, and i install to the system 160 mb of ram (128 + 32)...i am using Windows 98 SE but the system turns unstable, some times Iexplorer hangs up, and the explorer too, and some others aplicattions too, i recently install the OS so it is ok, can be possible that the two CHIPS (128 and 32 PC100) are incompatible?...
i remove the 32 DIMM PC100 but i dont try it yet....anybody experience sometihng like this before?

Yes you can get system instablity when using mis-matched memory moduals. I would first try running the system with only the 128 meg stick and see where you are stabablity wise..If it gets better then you know that those two sticks just dont work well together in the order you currently have them or they might not want to work with each other ever. Try changing which slots they are in. Put the 32 before the 128 or vise versus. What are the spec's of both sticks? If one is Cas2 and the other is Cas3 and your trying to run the system at cas2 then you could have created the problem ect ect.

johnbeast,
don't run any HDD utility until you got your RAM issue fixed - chances are that with flaky memory, a run of scandisk or similar will screw up your harddisk even more than it perhaps is.

Hey, i already remove the 32 DIMM module and everything runs PERFECTLY!!!,...
Before i look the MOBO Manual and there it say " only install memory in this order " :
DIMM1 DIMM2 DIMM3
8/16/32/64/128/256/512
so i think that first i got to install the smallest CHIP and then the big one..dont ya?
(FIRST THE 32 DIMM MODULE and THEn THE 128 DIMM MODULE in DIMM 1 and DIMM 2 SOCKET like the graphic says so...)
thank you very much.....JOHNBeAsT from ARGENTINA WORKing RIGHT NOW...jejeje
