So... I remove my PIII 550E from my computer, clean it up, box it up, and ship it to Sucubiss. When I get home from work, I slip in my trusty ole 300A, crank er up to 504MHz and let er rip. NOT! She boots up fine, loads windoze, then wammoooooo, all kinds weird stuff happens. I check everything all out, its good to go. NOT, again. I am at this point ready to kick my tower case, when I notice this little wire hanging off my dual HS&F.... yep I connected the wrong fan to the header DUH! The one not covering the CPU was working, and the one directly over the CPU was LIMP! Connect her up, reload winblows and she is purring once again.... Moral, I dont know. Just when you think you know whats up, thats when it gets you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I tried for almost an hour the other day to get my stupid printer working. no matter what i did, she was dead. Then I remembered, I unhooked the parallel cable so that I could plug in my brothers portable cdr, and left the cdr plugged in. The printer seems to work much better now that it is plugged in LOL

If we're talking about hard wear blunders;

I didn't enable DMA on my hard drive for almost year after I built my system. Thank you sisoft sandra. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I was working on a system with a Elite mobo the other day ( just after repairing one with a Intel 200 CPU) this Elite had a Cyrix 133 cpu in and I thought are well this will be going to a School I got a 200 Cyrix in one of the draws, so I just grabbed it and put it in, fired up system tells me its a 486, forgot the MHz on the Cyrix 200 is not 66. felt so guilty ended up useing a spare intel 200 for them ( FOC)

Know the feeling
two years ago I put a PII-450 in a machine that was supposed to get a PII-300.THey'd already taken the machine home and back then a 450 was top o the range.Let me tell ya that my boss wasn't exactly peachy.

I was setting up a new computer, and I turned on the juice, and nothing worked. Thought to myself... WTF!!?! I checked, and double checked EVERYTHING. Since the system and drive lights wouldn't even turn on, I figured I got a bum power supply or the connection to the motherboard was bad. Finally, three hours later at 6:00, it gets dark, so I turn on the lights, and the computer fires up. Turns out the surge protecter I plugged it into was plugged into the light switch outlet. Boy I felt dumb.

LOL Szech. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

on my first system that I built I was having alot of instability after running for a few hours. I took it to a tech and he opened it up and took it to the back. he gave it back before I could leave the store b/c I hadn't hooked up the CPU fan. Duh!

lol, Seti, I did that too for a long time!

Can't say how many hours I've wasted due to not checking cables and reseating cards/memory/cpu's. Now, those are the FIRST things I check when swapping parts & building/upgrading! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
