I'm sure i just did something amatueresly stupid, but i have taken apart the two computers I own many a time, but for the first time I bought all the individual components and put one together from scratch. I hit the power button for the first time boot on my 650 athalon ATX abit Ka7 motherboard combo system and the following happened. The fans fired up as did the cd drives (one regular the other cdrw) but no monitor picture and no beeps--so bingo i figure i screwed up and hit the power button, but the power wouldn't shut off, hit the reset, nothing either. Thats when i started to smell burning, I slammed down the power switch on the surge protector and killed the juice just in time to see a small bit of smoke rising from the board. Tore the whole thing apart and found a burnt circuit path on the back of the motherboard. The whole circuit path from the back side of where the ATX power connects to where the trail ended was discolored but actaully black charred and broken at one spot. How did I burn up a $160 board? Can anyone help? Or has anyone heard of anything like this? Thanks--Johnny

Ouch, that has to hurt. If you read down a little bit I think I might also have a bad KA7-100.

As for your problem your best chance is to clean the board up a little bit and hope for a RMA number from whomever you bought it.

I still haven't figured out how to get my hard drive to spin when connected to my KA7-100 so I guess where both screwed.
