I'm not a gamer but like to take out my frustrations with Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior now and then in dos. I have an older 166mmx that they work great on. I tried the games on a faster machine and it's jerky...what gives? They both work ok from windows, to a point but I want to play em in dos

hmmmm, could be the video card. Some video cards have completely given up on DOS (as everyone seems to be doing) and because of that they will run extremely slow in the standard DOS VESA modes.

Give us some details about your system. There might be a fix. I used to have a Rendition based video card that was just unbelievably slow in DOS. But soon a little program came along that remapped the slow video modes to some faster VESA modes that the card could deal with ok.

Thanks OP. This is a P166mmx@188 on 75 fsb.
A Tyan S1576 ATX. Video is I/O Magic 3Ddx S3 ViRGE 4mb PCI. The other computer that these games work better on is a 166mmx as well (not oc'd) with a 4mb ati rage II+.
Shadow Warrior works flawlessly on that system in dos, yet on this faster one is doesnt. SW works smooth on the 188 in windows but that causes other problems in certain sections of the game.
Everything else on this 188 system is fantastic, it's very fast for what it is.
I've got 2 other 4mb pci video cards around and not in use, a Cirrus Logic CL-GD5465 and a Diamond with a S3 ViRGE 86C325 chip.
Are these boards any better than what I have in, is it worth the trouble to try em?
Thx
Pat
