I just went to shields up and it says i have 4 ports open but it doesn't say how i close them. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
It's not a lot of good finding out that there open if i don't know how to close them.
I checked when i first installed and all parts where closed.
btw - i'm using win2k

um...it explains in more detail than you ever wanted to know just exactly how to close all your ports. In fact, he not only instructs you on how to "close" them, but how to actually configure your network settings so your files are "physically" disconnected and not accessable from the net, or something like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
You can just run Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) (it's a firewall), and though it won't close your ports, it will block them. It's still reccomended that you close your ports, but this is a lazy yet effective way.
I've been lazy lately, not closeing ports, but I pass sheilds up running ZA.

You can run a program like ComSpy to monitor what's being sent out via Winsocks, it works pretty well http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I haven't gotten around to figuring out what process/file will trigger a specific outgoing, but you do find out to where it's going, which will give you a clue to chase.
