Hey,
This is one of those "get-rich-quick" ideas I'll never be able to implement but wish someone else would. Car alarms are always going off and annoying everyone but not alerting their owners, who are usually inside a building where they can't hear the street noise. How about a car alarm that would call up your cell phone or pager number? Then you could rush outside and catch the perp, or AT LEAST shut the **** thing off so everyone else could get back to sleep. Perhaps you could even call a phone number that would shut it off, or reset it.
We have the technology!
Well I have heard of remote starting and shut off via pager numbers. I'm actully surpised there is no phone alert system already....it's a great idea for sure.

There are a few car alarm companys that sell just what you are talking about. They have been around for sereral years. You used to need to have a car phone for it to work, now you don't. You could also call your car and start it too.
They also have pagers for car alarms that will go off when your alarm goes off without a car phone. I think they have a two mile radius.

Dang! I knew it was a good idea! I thought of it years ago. The question is, why don't more people (my neighbors, for instance :P) get this feature?
Probably more expensive, but probably worth it if you're going to get an alarm at all.

That sounds a hair too obsessive-compulsive to me. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

A friend of mine in high-school rigged a couple of 12v batteries and capacitors to shock anyone who got within about 12 inches of the car. Another friend lined the case of his car stereo with razor blades. reach up behind the dash, and OOOHHHHHHHH SSSHSHHHHHHIIIIII.......!!!! That one actually prevented a theft of a stereo and left a trail of blood! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif HAHAHA HA HA HA HAHAHAHA http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
There's also the South African flame-thrower add-on for carjackers - that was a pretty good deterrent, but I hate to think what it does to the paintwork...
As for starting your car remotely, that strikes me as real dumb... leaving a vehicle unattended with the engine running is actually an offence (albeit rarely enforced) in the UK... if that thing was left in gear, sheesh...

I have a remote car starter. The motor will shut off if an attempt is made to put the car in gear, and it will not remote start in gear. Sure warms up the car and gets rid of the window ice in the winter though.

Seems the razor blade method has been used by many people after they have been ripped off.
I'll tell you a way a friend of mine got a dog to stop urinating on his wheels and tires. He disconected the battery then installed a 110 volt hot wire to the car and I imagine when the dog attemted to pi$$ on the wheel again ZAP!!! He said the dog did stop coming around. I do not recommend anyone do this though as it could be very dargerous. I considered doing this when my alarm keep going off in the middle of the night but with my luck I would have killed some kid trying to break into my car.
