Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : tray icon massacre... yAAiYaai 04-13-2000, 07:12 PM is there a freeware to get rid of tray icon ? i would like to have some programs running without tray icon... Faramir 04-14-2000, 12:12 AM I think this will work for win98 and not win95: start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/ tools tab-- click on system configuration utility -- start up tab click on the boxes of the programs you don't want in the tray Jinx67 04-14-2000, 02:22 AM Bingo thats it. Use your system config utility should get rid of all those nasty little tray icons. Just dont uncheck explorer or sys tray http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. If your running windows 9X... Ps if your running a Lan or Cable service dont lock off their software in the startup group... yAAiYaai 04-14-2000, 10:33 AM if i uncheck that in msconfig, the program will not run... my question is: i want to run the program, but i don't want to have its tray icon there ... is that possible ? Faramir 04-14-2000, 01:24 PM what program are you trying to run? everything I've taken off still works. you can get to each program in different ways too--like the start menu ---also I've noticed when you disable something windows make an entry in start/programs called Disabled Startup Items and shows everything that you disabled-- I hope this helps daveleau 04-14-2000, 01:28 PM I think he wants the programs to still run in the background and at startup but not display the icons in the sys tray. I would be interested in this as well. dave socalgal 04-14-2000, 02:13 PM Check the programs' options/preferences - many can be set to not run in the Systray. cyclone2 04-14-2000, 04:59 PM If you dont like their look why dont you just hide taskbar? Oh yeah ONLY things running in my start menu is firewall (BID) [This message has been edited by cyclone2 (edited 04-14-2000).] yAAiYaai 04-14-2000, 08:33 PM yes, dave, i would like to run the program in background, but not display in the tray. some programs do not have an option to not display the tray icon... is there a program to hide selected tray icon ? (it's more convenient not to hide the toolbar for me) jad1097 04-14-2000, 08:46 PM There is a program similar to what you want. What it does is take all the icons in your tray and file them under one icon in the tray. The problem is I can not remember the name but I do know where I got it from when I did have it. http://www.hotfiles.com You could do a search on their site to find it. This is not what I was talking about but it hides the sys tray. http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,0013UZ,.html [This message has been edited by jad1097 (edited 04-14-2000).] yAAiYaai 04-14-2000, 11:03 PM joke1097, thanks, that program is helpful.. but, by using the program i hide ALL icon... it would be better if i can select which icons to hide. i found this, but i dun understand.. looks like some kind of programming..... http://www.bcbdev.com/faqs/faq4.htm GMAGDNA 04-14-2000, 11:23 PM That site is for hiding the Taskbar field that appears for a program. You are trying for the system tray icon. socalgal 04-14-2000, 11:30 PM Looks like there might be some shareware/freeware programs here that may do what you want http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://winfiles.cnet.com/apps/98/shell-tray.html mike L 04-15-2000, 05:04 AM Maybe you can find something here. http://users.aol.com/axcel216/newtip.htm#HOME jad1097 04-15-2000, 09:21 AM I think I found what I was refering to before here. (http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000XHN,.html) The System Tray gives handy access to programs that need to run in the background, and some developers have used it for other types of programs as well. Over time, the tray can become so cluttered with icons that you have to really hunt to find the one you want. TrayManager lets you replace your less-used tray icons with a single icon that gives access to the other icons. Right-click on the TrayManager icon to access the other items in the tray. SysOpt.com
